Brain Cancer Justice

Brain Cancer Justice We are patients and families standing together against the UK's most indiscriminate and deadly cancers. We won't sit and be frustrated, we will act!

Jay’s words: “Thank you everyone for your support! We’ve raised over £2600 toward moving brain cancer from terminal to treatable.”

We are so proud of Jay, for so many reasons…
- he arrived in the UK (from Sydney) Wednesday night very jet lagged but so keen to take part
- he ran London Marathon on Sunday - with smiles and such enthusiasm
- he wore a pink skirt put together by his family - detailing current and lost brain cancer patients. Every name on the skirt meant a lot to Jay
- he spent the rest of the day responding to messages from patients who had shared their thoughts or families who had lost their loved one, despite being a little tired by the day!

Jay thinks deeply about others and his approach to life makes us so proud.

His page is still open - so if you haven’t donated yet, you still can!

Helen Towers and Natalie Edmondson highlighted the challenges facing brain cancer and the importance of raising awareness, attention, research and funding.

Brain cancer can impact any of us, whoever we are, wherever we live, it’s random.

Listen to their story from c. 3 mins in. Natalie and Helen highlight crucial points c. 4.25 mins.

We need other patients and families to follow their brilliant example of raising awareness within their community. Tell others about brain cancer. Increase attention around this awful disease. Contact your MP and encourage them to demand action from the Government.

Our Brain Bank for Glioblastoma

25/04/2026

Heartbreaking – every single day we lose our future to brain cancer.

This month we lost our BCJ supporter, Alex Savage. He had been at our BCJ event only a month earlier. His death, and the speed of it, has severely impacted us all.

In March, we lost Alex Warwick, another BCJ supporter. He had been on ITV only a month earlier leaving a big impact on those watching Good Morning Britain.

We also lost Amy Carr in March, who had represented England, Arsenal, Chelsea and Reading over her early years before taking on an 11 year battle with brain cancer.

In December, we lost Kieran Shingler, a very sporty, outdoorsy young man who had engaged us all in his three year fight against brain cancer.

All four of these young individuals were much loved, leaving a devastating impact on those around them.

WHY is this happening?
WHY are we losing our future?
WHY do those who can act not care enough?

We are reaching out to all of you – Government, the Pharmaceutical industry, Philanthropists – you can all help ensure that brain cancer becomes a priority.

PLEASE INVEST MORE and SAVE OUR FUTURE.

BIG THANK YOU! WE HAVE NOW REACHED THE LIMIT OF WHAT IS DOABLE BY SUNDAY! Do keep sharing but it probably now won’t get on the skirt in time. But we promise we will use your names at future events. It has been so impactful and heartbreaking to gather these names. A very big thank you and an even bigger hug.

………….

Jayden Wilkinson is running for Our Brain Bank for Glioblastoma this Sunday. We are following the brilliant approach of Nicola Nuttall and hope to add names on this skirt over the next two days. We want to represent patients who are still fighting and those we have loved and lost. If you want to be on Jay’s skirt (that matches the OBB colours to the delight of his sisters) then please add the name in comments below.

Our thoughts are always with you.

Currently Jay is in Delhi for an 8hr stop on his way from Sydney to the UK! He will be running the London Marathon on Sunday to raise money for Our Brain Bank for Glioblastoma. Now this shows dedication!

We are so proud of Jay… when OBB reached out and asked if anyone would be willing to run the marathon he put his hand up straight away. He wanted to support his stepmother.

Georgie Maynard has been a big part of his life since he was a boy, and on Sunday he will be running on her behalf to raise both awareness and funding to find a cure for Glioblastoma. It is the most aggressive cancer with the average life expectancy of only 14 months.

What Jay needs today is support! He has travelled all this way and will no doubt have some jet lag when he lands. Donations will keep him going! It doesn’t matter how much you can donate but anything will have a positive impact! PLEASE head here to donate: https://2026tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/jayden-wilkinson

It is devastating to hear that Alex Savage is no longer with us. Alex was much loved by the BCJ team.

Throughout his time battling cancer, he campaigned for brain cancer patients. Alex used his determination and endless energy to raise awareness, even when his own body was battling the brutal treatment.

He lived for nearly 5 years post diagnosis. During that period he underwent three brain surgeries after two recurrences, multiple rounds of chemo before losing movement in his left arm. He continued to have ongoing treatment including fortnightly infusions and drugs. At no point did he give up fighting his tumour.

Alex was a much loved husband and a devoted father. We are very much thinking of you Anna, Etta, and Alex’s family.

To the end Alex remained active, he attended the Brain Cancer Justice event on 9th March as we delivered out petition to No.10 Downing Street. Later that evening he shared more of his story, his fight and his desire for change. In first pic he is standing with GBM patients (L to R): Chris – who is currently in Cologne receiving treatment, Georgie, co-founder of BCJ and Alex.

In February, he had been talking with Sam Suri (in pics 2&3) on the Tessa Jowell Foundation podcast: https://youtu.be/Qaxrw8J1GYI?si=z8b54OZwy7Nx5Ujj

Sam describes Alex as “a beautiful human being, so honest, kind, an amazing dude”. It was a truly impactful podcast with both of them detailing their own experience facing brain cancer. They spoke bluntly about the daily, ongoing challenges facing patients, including the financial impact, and the heart breaking truth of what they can no longer do in life.

Even if you only have a short amount of time – listen to this podcast. Alex shares the value of appreciating the smaller things in life, sunrise, favourite cup of coffee, seeing the ducklings swimming “more present and more attuned. Keep grinding on. Day by day, one foot in front of another.”

Current patients will strongly relate to their experience, whilst patient families will benefit from understanding how patients are guiding their way through the process. This is incredibly valuable.

Alex is an inspiration to us all, he fought throughout his illness, rising to every new challenges. He’s inspired BCJ to keep going.

Alex’s decline was both quick and confronting.

Unfortunately the Government’s action is the exact opposite.

This NEEDS to CHANGE.

RIP Alex Savage

Have a look at the impactful ITV Meridian news. MP Charlie Maynard and his sister Georgie share their thoughts on the desperately needed change for brain cancer patients. 🧠🤯

Last week another brain cancer patient, Alex, passed away. It has been desperately sad to hear this news💔. The loss of Alex, reinforces how we need REAL ACTION not time drifting away as the Government drafts paperwork and doesn't act on removing the red tape. 🗄️

We are losing too many children and young adults, our future generation - it's time to act. 📈🩸🧬

If you want to ensure that you, your family, or our future generation have a chance to survive, please contact your MP and ask them to write questions to Ministers of the DHSC. BCJ can assist with the content if it’s helpful. ✍️

We need to speed up the process - COVID did it - we can do it again for brain cancer. ⏩

Waiting time is over, excuses are over, we need action and we need it NOW.

🙏Thank you ITV Meridian and Ciaran Fitzgerald for helping raise awareness of brain cancer.

Morning so its another heart breaking story and appeal

Harley’s journey at just 16, he began experiencing severe headaches, only to be misdiagnosed with migraines. It wasn’t until he lost his peripheral vision that we discovered the devastating truth: he had a brain tumor. Since then, Harley has faced three brain tumors, four craniotomies, and a temporary shunt for proton radiotherapy that was never removed. This shunt has caused the ependymoma to spread to his chest and stomach, a situation no one expected.
Despite his courage and resilience, Harley’s oncologist has expressed doubts about the effectiveness of chemotherapy after just three treatments. This news has been a crushing blow for the family. They have exhausted all options in UK, and now they are turning to a clinic in Germany that offers less invasive treatments. The family need to get Harley there as soon as possible.
Harley is only 19. I am obo the family are reaching out to you for help in raising funds for his treatment. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference. Thank you for your support during this incredibly difficult time for the family

We 💯 agree. It’s NOT right. But for brain cancer patients, specifically GBM patients, it is even worse - there is no life-saving treatment because there is NO cure.
We can self-fund treatment for extra months or years to live - which you understandably want - but we need to find a cure - turn Terminal into Treatable.

Carol Player’s insurer, Axa, is refusing to pay claims for life-extending treatments, leaving her with huge medical bills. She is not alone, finds Jack Simpson
