This is a hands-on practical Orthognathic Course emphasising hard-soft tissue planning for excellent surgical and orthodontic outcomes. We take you through each case, demonstrating the step- by-step planning of a wide variety of clinical presentations. Included are live video theatre recordings of surgical techniques.

The course is delivered by Mr. Heliotis, internationally acclaimed Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, in conjunction with a faculty of expert Consultant Orthodontist colleagues, all of whom have a wealth of experience in the orthodontic management of orthognathic cases.

This course will present patient vignettes from joint orthognathic clinics via video recording, going through the history and examination, followed by a case discussion and Visual Treatment Objective (VTO) formulation in an MDT setting.

There will be accompanying videos of surgical techniques of all aspects of Orthognathic Surgery which were recorded live and unedited in theatre.

THE COURSE IS CPD ACCREDITED.

Our courses are run by Mr Heliotis in conjunction with a faculty of expert orthodontists and surgeons who have a wealth of experience in their fields.

TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY - ALEX’S TRANSFORMATION
Alex presented with a retruded lower jaw, protruding upper teeth, and a deep bite that caused damage to the palatal aspect of her upper teeth. She had a short lower jaw, which meant that her upper incisor teeth were pushed forward by the muscle pressure of her lower lip and were prominent (“goofy”) as a result.

As they had no contact against her upper teeth, her lower incisor teeth had over erupted into the roof of her mouth (the palate) and had stripped away the gum from behind the upper incisors.

The solution for Alex was to correct the short lower jaw employing Jaw Advancement Surgery, which brought the lower incisors forward to meet the upper incisors in an anatomically correct position. She wore braces for about 12 months before the surgery and needed to wear them for a similar period of time afterwards to settle her bite.

The real challenge in Alex’s case was the orthodontic preparation prior to surgery which was expertly done by Dr Claire Nightingale of Queen’s Gate Orthodontics, after which Manolis carried out the lower jaw surgery to advance the lower jaw. The orthodontics and the surgery have worked together to give Alex the superb smile she has always wanted!

TRANSFORMATION TUESDAYS - Shaping Faces - Changing Lives.
As a warm and successful professional young woman in her twenties, Priya felt that her overall facial appearance impacted her personal and professional confidence. She was unhappy with her long face and was self-conscious that her lower jaw jutted forward. She felt her face was out of proportion and complained that her bite was misaligned. Additionally, Priya was very unhappy with her nose. She thought it was beaked, over projected, and that the tip was droopy and bulbous. She also had decreased airflow through her nose resulting in nasal-sounding speech.

It was decided to address all these issues in a staged approach which involved:
1. Orthodontic preparation to put the teeth in the correct position.
2. Bimaxillary Facial Surgery. This involved a Maxillary and Midface Osteotomy with advancement of these structures with a modified Le Fort I Osteotomy and Septoplasty as well as a Bilateral Sagital Split Osteotomy of the mandible to take the mandible back and therefore balance out the facial disproportions.
3. Open Septorhinoplasty. Approximately a year later nose surgery was undertaken to give Priya the nose she always wanted. This involved reforming her nose entirely. Normal breathing was restored, and the nasal speech receded.
