Gaslighting. It’s a term we hear a lot, but what does it actually mean?

Gaslighting is a form of emotional manipulation where someone causes you to doubt your own thoughts, feelings, or sense of reality. It can be subtle and hard to spot, but over time it can leave you feeling confused, anxious, and unsure of yourself.

We’ve shared a simple definition and some common examples to help you recognise the signs.

Recognising this behaviour is the first step. If any of this feels familiar, you don’t have to make sense of it alone. Our counsellors can help you understand what’s happening and support you in moving forward.

Intimacy is about more than just romance, it’s about connection, safety, and vulnerability. ❤️

S3x therapy can sound scary, but it's much less scary than you might think. It isn’t about performance; it’s about understanding what is happening for you and your partner emotionally and physically.

If you’ve been feeling a disconnect, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day 💜

Kindness doesn’t have to be big or dramatic. In relationships, it’s often the small moments that matter most: a listening ear, a gentle check-in, a thank you, or choosing patience when things feel hard.

At Relate, we see every day how simple acts of care can help people feel heard, valued and less alone.

Today, what’s one small act of kindness you could share with someone you care about? 💬

"I stopped being scared of talking about what I felt. The consequences of not doing that are bigger than the consequences of doing it."

With a new film based on his life, Is This Thing On?, John Bishop has been talking openly about his marriage and how he was able to reconnect with his wife.

John has spoken before about how he and his wife sought support from Relate during a tough time in their relationship. With that help, they were able to work through a break-up and find their way back to each other.

Whether you are looking for a fresh start or just need to understand each other better, our counsellors are here to help you navigate the distance.

It’s Children’s Mental Health Week. 🧸

As parents, we know our children better than anyone, yet the fear of missing the signs of bullying is one many of us share. If you’re worried about your child right now, please know you don’t have to navigate this alone.

🚩 Spotting the signs: often, they’re subtle. Beyond physical clues, you might notice changes in behaviour, a sudden reluctance to go to school, frequent illnesses, or withdrawing from friends and activities they once loved.

❤️ Opening up: if your child shares what’s happening, it takes enormous courage. While our instinct is often to jump in and fix things, simply listening and validating their feelings is one of the most powerful ways to show you’re on their team.

🛑 Practical steps to try: when you’re ready, many parents find it safer to speak to the school rather than approaching other parents directly. Encouraging new hobbies or friendships outside of school can also help rebuild confidence and offer a fresh start.
