WPF Therapy

WPF Therapy We are sorry to let you know that WPF Therapy will be closed from Monday 31st July 2023.

As one of the UK’s longest-standing therapy charities, our radical roots go back to 1969 – a time when psychotherapy was still quite inaccessible and exclusionary. Determined to change this, we began our work to make high-quality therapy and training more widely available. The charity was initially established to offer counselling to those in need and went on to offer training in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, as well as Group Analytic Therapy, alongside accessible and affordable Open Ended Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Brief Therapy, Long Term Groupwork and Reflective and Experiential Groups. During those years training and therapy was provided in a range of other modalities and a variety of innovative clinical services were provided based on project and grant funding. Over 50 years later, we remained committed to making Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Group Analytic Therapy inclusive and affordable through our Clinic and Training activities. WPF Therapy's legacy will live on in all those that have valued being connected with the organisation over its long history and we are grateful for all the help the organisation has received, both recently and over the many years of the charity’s work.

The talk will focus on the classical Freudian approach to mourning – a multifaceted inquiry into all the dimensions of the lost object, that will be a central concern of any psychoanalytic practice.

Conor McCormack will use a visual presentation to explore the representation of mourning and melancholia throughout the modern era. The loss of a loved one can feel like the end of the world, but can also be a portal to transcendence, illuminating existence like no other experience.

This event will be delivered via Zoom and will not be recorded due to the confidential nature of the clinical material. The term depression is...

WPF has helped so many over the past 50+ years. To continue to offer inclusive and affordable therapy we urgently need your help and without it we will be unable to continue to help those that currently depend on us and those that are yet to come.

Please help us keep this much loved charity going by donating to our emergency fundraiser: http://www.wpf.org.uk/emergency-campaign

By helping us, you will give us the chance to reach the exciting future we have planned, one where we are able to move our diverse community to light filled clinic rooms and a purpose built training suite. But to get there, we need to raise £125k to bridge us over the summer when we are facing financial crisis due to rising costs and a delay in selling our building.

We are grateful for any support you can provide and would appreciate you sharing this appeal across your networks.

The funds raised will be used for our general charitable purposes and we will use them in the way that we feel is best to achieve our mission. For example, this could be by funding our move to our new home or covering the essentials to keep WPF going.

Following a trajectory from Freud to Lacan, this will be a talk about the elegantly theorised psychoanalytic concept of fantasy – always of great clinical relevance. The speaker will use a visual presentation and clinical examples to elaborate a Lacanian approach to working with fantasy.

An understanding of when fantasy breaks down – so can reality, and how to deal with fantasy’s relation to anxiety and enjoyment.
