What if rebuilding Syria isn’t just about bricks and mortar, but about healing every shattered heart and mind?

https://www.drrolahallam.com/blog/repairingsyrianhearts

I do not hear anywhere of the task of rebuilding our shattered hearts and minds. To say that each Syrian, whether at home or abroad, is traumatized and in need of healing feels woefully inadequate. No matter how monumental the challenge of rebuilding a destroyed country may seem, I can assure you it pales in comparison to repairing the inner shattering of our collective being.

Healing does not happen simply with time. Undigested and unprocessed trauma does not just disappear. It lodges itself in our physical, emotional, and energetic bodies. At the collective level, it fuels the cycles of fear, mistrust, and grief—all of which we have in epic proportions.

Join us in this journey of healing and rebuilding. If you’re ready to collaborate or want to support this mission, reach out today.

yes, let us rebuild Syrians’ broken bricks, but I do not hear anywhere of the task of rebuilding our shattered hearts and minds. War is enough to wound an entire nation, and we have over 4,700 days to process. No matter how monumental the challenge of rebuilding a destroyed country may seem, I can...

Once upon a time, a brutal regime terrorised an entire nation.
And then, it didn’t.
P**f.
In a matter of days, 54 years of iron-fisted control and a devastating 13-year war ended.
Just like that.

To say Syrians are shocked would be an understatement. The fall of the regime feels nothing short of an early Christmas miracle.

There’s joy, so much of it—waves of ululations, sobs, and screams filling the air. My own voice joined the chorus the moment I heard the words, sakat al-nizam—"the regime has fallen."

Listen to a new podcast episode with now!

She talks about the myth of compassion fatigue, turning guilt into gratitude and self care in times of war.

'Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, many of us have been struggling to deal with what is internationally regarded as a war of aggression. Not only has it triggered Europe's largest refugee crisis since the Second World War, with more than 3.8 million Ukrainians fleeing the country and millions more internally displaced, but many of us who are onlookers from safety feel helpless and unable to stay watching.

For this episode on self-care in times of war, we invite Rola Hallam, a doctor, humanitarian, and human rights defender who saves children's lives on the front lines in Syria, to talk about her own experiences in the country where she was born. She is the first Syrian TED Fellow and founder of CanDo.

In this conversation, we strive to find out what drives her to continue with her work, but also to try to better understand how we can face these times, what kind of self-care we can put in place and how to face such a heartbreaking event, which nonw of us has had to deal with…until now.'
