When I first met this sweet 2-year-old, she was extremely distressed-screaming, clinging to her parents, and overwhelmed during her first Craniosacral Therapy (CST) session.
Her parents’ main concerns were delayed speech, intense agitation when her needs weren’t understood, hyperactivity, poor focus, sensory overwhelm, no eye contact, toe walking and repetitive hand flapping.
With years of experience working with children, and as a mum to an autistic son, I recognised these signs as indicators of low vagal tone and a nervous system stuck on high alert.
Children with autism/ ADHD often have low vagal tone, contributing to what I call a rigid nervous system.
When we look at autism through the lens of low vagal tone and a high alert nervous system, puzzling behaviours start to make sense. They are simply physiological responses to internal distress.
The connection between the vagus nerve and autism is a game-changer.
It helps us understand why so many kids struggle with sensory processing, social engagement and emotional regulation.
The vagus nerve is like a superhighway between the brain and the body.
By improving vagal tone and calming the nervous system with CST, we shift the body from chronic stress to safety and connection.
A calmer, more regulated nervous system creates more space for a child to grow, learn, and experience joy. ❤️
Her parents said: “Thanks to her weekly sessions she has several new words and is starting to put simple sentences together. She is more focused, present, sociable, engaged and joyful.”
Please DM me if you would like to book a session or find out how CST could help your child.
