The ever popular 'Albus' made a welcome return this week as our Residents were 'all ears' to hear about how he had been!

Hopping to the front of the queue for a closer view, Alfredo said: 'Oh, my darling friend...' , a curious Larry asked 'Does he have a name?' and a joyful Adrian (not fluffing his words) said: 'I don't normally like lots of animals, but this one seems rather okay!'.

In another moment of magic, Francis was visibly at ease as Albus cosied up to cuddle each Resident. Playful as ever, a bright-eyed and bushy tailed Veronica said: 'Oh it's lovely' before gently stroking the Rabbit.

Lest We Forget…
“For their tomorrow, gave us today. A moment of remembrance, and hope for a peaceful future”

On Sunday 9th & Tuesday 11th of November, we celebrated Remembrance Sunday & Armistice Day by remembering those who so bravely sacrificed their lives to fight for our freedom. Pausing for a poignant moment of gentle reflection, Florence & Larry (proudly holding Poppy drawings) took a moment to share their feelings as Florence touched on how it felt when the end of war was announced. She said: ‘Yes, there was hope!’. Echoing similar sentiments, Larry passionately exclaimed: ‘There was togetherness. I wish I could do more.’

Lining up to pay respect, George & Janet felt inspired to take a photo with the words ‘Lest We Forget’ as the latter pointed to the sign, saying: ‘Well, It is important I do it’ in what summarised a significant few days at the Devonshire.

Recently - our Day Centre was bright in more ways than one as Jean (during a sensory activity) helped us with our latest Day Centre board and passionately said: 'This is grand', whilst Alfredo said: 'Oh, I do love such colours'. Everyday is special, come and see why. . .

With you every step of the way! Last month for World Alzheimer's Day on the 21st September. we had a day to remember as we took some gentle steps around the garden for a walkathon that was so much fun! The first of many heart-warming strolls, Christine completed 50 steps, saying: "I hope I did well". Cathy cheekily said: "50, that's your lot!" and Adrian joked: "Get on with it then", as we racked up a combined 500 steps. This years theme - 'Ask About Dementia' focused on open communication as we informed everyone that purple symbolises wisdom and hope.

World Mental Health Day serves as a powerful reminder that there is no health without mental health, and that everyone's mental health is important. When someone is living with dementia there is always concern about the health of the brain and how to cope through the dementia journey.

When you are a carer or care partner there is concern about the stress you feel providing care and how you will manage. This year’s theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health is ‘Access to Services’ – we want to tell you about the services Devonshire Dementia Care Home and Day Centre provide to support people living with dementia and their families experiencing stress, related to a dementia diagnosis.

Let's give a hand for the Big Heart Band! Research has shown singing releases endorphins that can make us happier & healthier. Connecting with a family visitor - Del tapped his feet and said: 'I like this!' - Tony & Jackie epitomised passion during 'Waltzing Matilda' which summed up a fun day & Kay excitedly said: 'We're all doing it!' as imperfectly sung melodies promoted community spirit.

Nestled into our vibrant gardens, Gladys made a well-received appearance as Marie gently placed the chicken on her lap & George became one of our many chick magnets for the afternoon. Beaming with joy - he said: 'Well that's a good one!' before laughing & stroking him. Reflective of simple pleasures, our feathered friend didn't stop there as he strutted his stuff for many more photo ops.
