Founder of Get Ahead of Hair Loss
Dr Sharon Wong is a GMC registered, UK trained Consultant Dermatologist. She provides medical and surgical treatments for a comprehensive range of general skin conditions. She is one of few dermatologists in London who specialises in treating hair and scalp disorders and is able to offer the novel platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections to treat hair loss in her clinic.
Dr Wong studied medicine and undertook an intercalated BSc degree in Clinical Genetics at St George’s Hospital in London, achieving first class honours in both and obtained numerous
undergraduate prizes. She completed higher speciality training in Dermatology in some of London’s most prestigious hospitals including Barts Health NHS Trust and The Royal Free Hospital, during which she developed a special interest in hair and scalp disorders.
She has presented extensively at national and international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals. She worked as a Consultant Dermatologist at the Homerton University Hospital between 2012 and 2018, where she had set up a dedicated NHS hair clinic. She currently provides clinical services in the private sector only.
Public education and patient support on hair loss is an important part of Dr Wong’s work and she has been invited on numerous occasions as guest speaker on the topic.
She achieved the world record for delivering the largest hair science lecture as part of the inaugural World Afro Day in September 2017. A year later she created and delivered a successful, high profile public awareness event in aid of charity called Get Ahead of Hair Loss involving several notable figures including Joanna Rowsell Shand and Trevor Sorbie.
Dr Wong is a member of the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD), the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), the British Hair and Nail Society (BHNS) and a collegiate member of the British Association of Hair Restoration Society (BAHRS).
She is a spokesperson for the British Skin Foundation (BSF) and is a medical advisor for the Cicatricial Alopecia Research Foundation.
Dr Wong is registered as a provider with all major UK insurance companies.
