Our first new frame arrivals of 2026 have officially landed at Long Stratton Eye Care, and we’re already dreaming of brighter days ahead.

Paula couldn’t resist and has already picked out a pair for her holiday 😉 — but don’t worry, she’s not having all the fun! These gorgeous new frames have arrived just in time for our second pair offer, making it the perfect moment to treat your eyes.

Whether you’re fed up with being dazzled by the low sun on the drive home 🚗✨ or feeling extra sensitive to light after cataract surgery, a good pair of sunglasses can make all the difference. Protect your peepers from UV damage and enjoy clearer, more comfortable vision.

From subtle marble tones to classic, timeless styles, there’s something for everyone — and this is just a sneak peek 👀

⏰ Hurry — offer ends 15th February 2026!

🎉 Birthday vibes for Karen! 🎉

Today we’re celebrating Karen, one of our brilliant dispensing team and our very own contact lens whizz 🤓✨

You might also know her as “the lady with the red glasses” 👓❤️ — Karen is fearless when it comes to spec choices and somehow manages to rock every single pair. And yes… she’s done it again. A brand new pair of specs is on the way and due to arrive later this week 👀✨ Big reveal pending…

Karen isn’t in the practice today (as is only right!) because she’s off celebrating her birthday 🎂 We’re hoping this includes a very nice birthday lunch somewhere special… hint hint to the husband 😜🍽️

We hope she’s having the best day and we’re already looking forward to celebrating properly with some birthday cake when she’s back tomorrow 🧁

We’re sure you’ll all join us in wishing Karen a super, spec-tacular birthday 🎈💙

💡 Free Tech Drop-In for People with Sight Loss 💡
On Monday 26th January, Vision Norfolk are hosting a free technology drop-in session designed to support people living with sight loss and show how technology can make everyday life easier.

You don’t need to book and you don’t need any prior tech experience – just drop in anytime between 10am and 1pm.
The session is all about building confidence and exploring accessible technology, including:
iPads & iPhones
Samsung phones & tablets
Synapptic phones & tablets
BlindShell phones

Whether you’re completely new to technology or want to get more from the accessibility features on your device, these sessions are there to help you overcome barriers and discover what’s possible.

🗣️ “These free drop-in sessions really help people living with sight loss build confidence with technology and make the most of the excellent accessibility features available,” says Barbara Dunn, Services Manager and Deputy Chief Executive at Vision Norfolk.

🔍 Assistive Technology Demonstrations
On the last Monday of every month, representatives from Humanware and Optelec will also be at the Vision Norfolk Norwich Hub (10:30am–3pm) offering hands-on demonstrations of the latest assistive technology – from electronic magnifiers and text-to-speech devices to talking GPS and braille technology.

This is a fantastic opportunity to try equipment, ask questions, and learn in a relaxed and supportive environment. You don’t need to know anything beforehand – that’s exactly what the session is for.

🏃‍♀️ Running, Vision & Perspective 👀

Many of you know that when she isn’t in the examination room, Sarah-Jane loves running. Earlier this year, her work and hobby came together in a special way. She completed England Athletics training to become a qualified guide runner for visually impaired runners, helping more people take part in the local running community.

As an optometrist, Sarah-Jane already understands eye conditions, but experiencing them first-hand was eye-opening. The course host brought a range of specialist glasses to simulate different visual impairments. We then moved on to learning how to guide and provide clear, timely instructions before experiencing running blindfolded while being guided – it gave a real sense of the challenges visually impaired runners face. It was a powerful reminder of just how brave people are when tackling day-to-day life or pursuing a hobby without full sight.

The training, hosted by Harleston Running Club, was fully booked – despite the snowy conditions ❄️ – and has now added many more qualified guide runners across Norfolk, making local park runs and events more accessible than ever.

For Sarah-Jane, the experience reinforced something she feels strongly about: being an optometrist is one thing, but experiencing it yourself changes your perspective. It has strengthened her commitment to do her very best for her patients and local community, both in practice and beyond, while working to make activities like running accessible for all.

If you’re interested in becoming a guide runner or taking part in the course (park runs need walkers too!), you can register via the England Athletics website.

🎉 We Turn Five! 👓

At the end of last year, we celebrated five amazing years since I purchased M. Shepherd Optometrist – and what a journey it’s been! So much has changed in that time, and I feel incredibly fortunate that Karen joined me shortly after I started, with Paula not far behind. Together, we’ve built something really special, and we couldn’t have done it without our patients – so this is a little thank you and a bit of a celebration!

To mark the occasion, we’ve teamed up with our lens suppliers to offer something extra special: 50% off a second set of lenses when you purchase a new frame!

If you’ve purchased from us this year or in 2025, pop in over the next few weeks to grab this fab saving.

Your second pair can be exactly what you need – single vision, varifocal, sunglasses, reading glasses for your bedside or handbag, or even occupational/office lenses.

It’s a little way of saying thank you – and because we work so closely with our suppliers, it’s a limited-time offer you won’t want to miss.

📅 Offer runs 15th January – 15th February 2026
⚠️ Limited time only. Not to be used with other discounts. Excludes essential and package frames. Discount applies to the least expensive set of lenses.
