Good morning, its Friday 13th February.
Friday the 13th is considered unlucky due to a combination of long-standing Western superstitions, merging the fear of the number 13 with the traditionally unlucky day of Friday. Rooted in biblical, historical, and mythological stories, this combination of Friday and 13th, is often linked to the Last Supper, the crucifixion, and the 1307 arrests of the Knights Templar.
Biblically, at the Last Supper, 13 people were present, with Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus, often considered the 13th guest. Additionally, Jesus was also crucified on a Friday.
The Number 13 has been considered "unlucky" for centuries, 13 is seen as an imperfect number compared to 12 for example 12 months, 12 apostles, 12 signs of the zodiac.
Friday is known historically as "Hangman's Day" in Britain, so Friday has long been associated with bad luck or days of penance.
Historically then, King Philip IV of France arrested hundreds of Knights Templar on Friday, October 13, 1307 linking the specific date to tragedy.
In Norse Mythology, the trickster god Loki was the 13th guest at a dinner party for 12 gods, leading to the death of the beloved god Balder.
This fear of Friday the 13th is called: "paraskevidekatriaphobia or friggatriskaidekaphobia" π±
But despite the lore, unlucky Friday 13th is largely a cultural phenomenon, as studies have shown no significant increase in accidents or bad luck on this day.
I was always told that after midday on an unlucky say whether Friday 13th or even 1st April, the "bad luck" ceases to be.....who knows if that's right or not but
Whatever you're doing today we hope bad luck stays away and you have a great day.
Here at The Mystical Cat we are open and will be here at Harts Barn Craft Centre until 4pm ish today.
