If your child has asked for a new set of wheels this Christmas, don’t forget to make sure they have a helmet that fits too.

Falls from bikes, scooters, skateboards and rollerskates are incredibly common. But some of these accidents can lead to life-changing head injuries.

Please encourage your child to wear a helmet every time they go out on wheels to protect their head. And, don’t forget to lead by example and wear yours too!

Remember no helmet = no wheels

Did you know that urgent treatment centres can deal with many of the common injuries and illnesses people go to A&E (or call 999) for?

This includes:
✅ Sprains and strains
✅ Suspected broken bones
✅ Injuries, cuts and bruises
✅ Stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea
✅ High temperatures

Many are able to carry out ECGs, blood tests and x-rays too.

In the South Central region we have over a dozen urgent treatment centres, with many open over the weekend, from early morning to late at night.

With so many viruses going around, families may be tempted to use steam inhalation to relieve cold and flu symptoms. But, specialist burns departments are urging families not to use this remedy.

They’re worried about the number of life-changing burns they’re treating, particularly in small children and babies, who’ve grabbed at bowls of boiling water. These devastating injuries often need long-term treatment or surgery.
