🔍 Heel Fissures
Treat Feet – by Pretty Nails Clinic
Heel fissures are linear cracks in the epidermis that can extend into the dermis, typically forming in areas of mechanical stress. When open, they may serve as portals for bacterial entry, increasing the risk of infection and ulceration — particularly in individuals with diabetes mellitus.
💡 Management and Prevention:
✔ Maintain optimal skin hydration
✔ Ensure daily foot hygiene and thorough drying, especially between toes
✔ Apply emollients containing urea, lactic acid, paraffin, glycerine, or petrolatum
✔ For anhidrotic skin, nourish regularly; for hyperhidrotic skin, use astringent antiperspirants
✔ In some cases, medical-grade adhesive may be used to close deeper fissures
