Chronic lack of sleep causes huge problems both mentally and for the physical body. A weakened immunity, diabetes disruption, heart disease and obesity are amongst the physical problems and immediate cognitive impairment, reduced reaction ability when driving or operating machinery, memory loss, mood disorders and inability to concentrate are all effects. It’s devastating for the mind and body.
The anxiety of not being able to sleep creates a viscous cycle as well. It’s important to take control, have regular bedtimes, reduce the fear of not being able to sleep, keep alcohol and caffeine to a minimum and consider therapy to break the cycle.
