When we are feeling anxious our concentration can be affected, our minds can feel foggy or go blank, can’t start or finish tasks, read a line 4 times, or be unable to focus and get work done.

We can stay with the worry which affects our concentration, or we can work to reduce it.

Restructuring our thoughts and beliefs can help reduce anxiety, and improve concentration and focus, so that we can do our daily talks.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is similar to counselling, but different in approach as it is structured, focuses on current issues, and sets up goals to work towards.

It provides strategies to manage the difficult emotions of daily life, and to grow and develop personally and professionally. So you can thrive, not just survive.

World Mental Health Day, on 10th of October 2025, is organised by the Mental Health Foundation with the aim of raising awareness about mental health.

The theme this year is ‘Overwhelm - When Global Events and Relentless Bad News Become Too Much’, looking at the psychological toll of receiving constant negative news.

It recognises how this ‘information overload’ can lead to anxiety, compassion fatigue and burnout and encourages limiting exposure to it.

World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10 October. The theme is set by the World Federation of Mental Health.

I find this article helpful as it encourages woman at menopause to exercise, not only to strengthen their bodies but also to alleviate physical symptoms associated with menopause such as hot flashes, broken sleep and anxiety.

Strength training is ideal during menopause to maintain health and prevent becoming frail too quickly.

Lao Tzu, a key figure in Taoism, warned against the psychological and emotional danger coming from seeking validation or approval from others.

He suggests that by overly prioritising other people’s perceptions of us, we surrender control over our actions and decisions, becoming imprisoned by their expectations and in doing so we give them power over our sense of self and worth.

This doesn’t mean disregarding the opinions of the important people to us entirely because relationships are vital to us, but rather not letting their opinions override our sense of self and worth.

I often remind people how important it is to their recovery, to trust the CBT process and go through its stages at the peace then can, instead of rushing though it, thinking that they should already be better!

CBT is a structured, goal-oriented therapy that helps people identify and modify negative thought patterns, core beliefs and behaviours, to improve mental health conditions like anxiety and depression.

Going through the CBT process, and remaining consistent, is key even when immediate results are not obvious. It can lead to significant transformation over six to twenty weeks!

10th of September 2025 is the World Suicide Prevention Day.

This is an event organised by The International Association for Suicide Prevention to promote commitment to taking action to prevent suicide.

Showing compassion towards people who struggle, offering a word of encouragement, showing empathy and trust reminds them that they are not alone with their pain, and in doing so can inspire hope and a sense that life is still worth living.

To manage our negative emotions means to take control over how we respond to situations instead of just reacting to them.

To react to a situation is to act impulsively and in doing so we can make decisions that may not be good for us.

We can learn to manage our negative emotions and this helps us to make helpful decisions under pressure, build stronger relationships with people, and mange challenging situations in a constructive way.

The concept of this phrase stems from psychological and spiritual perspectives on personal growth, suggesting that life presents the same challenges to us to teach us.

The unhelpful patterns will persist until we decide to break them by grasping their underlying message and developing skills to grow and do something different.

It may be that we need to learn about our values, or developing critical thinking and reflection, to see other angles to a situation or set up boundaries.
