The role of our Minor Illness Nurse
Our Minor Illness Nurse is a registered nurse who began in the surgery as a Practice Nurse. Undertaking additional training to diagnose and treat minor illnesses and to prescribe medication. Our Minor Illness Nurse treats acute, non-urgent conditions such as infections, rashes and minor injuries autonomously, providing self-care advice, prescriptions and works with GPs and other team members to deliver efficient, high-quality care. Our Minor Illness Nurse also delivers other services such as vaccinations and cervical screening, specialising in diabetes.

Here are five warning signs someone may be experiencing domestic abuse:

✅ Sudden changes in behaviour or personality
✅ Being monitored, controlled, or restricted in daily life

The role of our Physician Associates
Physician Associates are trained healthcare professionals who work under GP supervision to assess and manage patients. They are highly skilled at taking histories and performing physical examinations if needed. They can also arrange tests and analyse results, explaining everything in detail before arranging follow-up appointments or treatments. Physicians Associates cannot prescribe, and they will refer prescriptions to a GP. Our Physicians Associates specialise in respiratory.

The role of our Practice Nurses
Our Practice Nurses are registered nurses, providing direct patient care, health promotion, and long-term condition management as part of a multidisciplinary team. They handle tasks from vaccinations and wound care to screening and chronic disease monitoring, often taking on more complex roles traditionally performed by doctors. They assess, treat, and educate patients of all ages, focusing on preventing illness, managing ongoing conditions like diabetes, and delivering essential services like family planning and travel health. Some of our Practice Nurses have also completed additional training to allow them to prescribe medications. They use a holistic approach to meet the needs of our practice population.

The role of our First Contact Physiotherapist
Our Physiotherapist assesses, diagnoses and treats movement, pain and disability. They manage musculoskeletal (MSK) issues directly which improves access to care. Our Physiotherapist will advise on exercise, manual therapy and education to manage conditions as well as promoting self-management and liaising and/or referring with the wider team such as MSK and Occupational Therapy. Our physiotherapist can request hospital tests if required. If you can be treated by our physiotherapist, you will be signposted to them for an appointment instead of a GP.
