I'm doing a course called - Therapeutic Creative Life Story Work at the moment so diving into alot of books about childhood trauma and attachment.

This book has really stayed with me and has helped gain an insight as to why, for some people those early experiences with parents/ guardians have such a lasting effect on how they can relate to others.

I've attended some training today :) and thought I would share this for those of you who worry that you overreact when you feel left out or rejected -

"Those hurt feelings when you're the last one picked for a team may register in the brain just like a scraped knee or a kicked shin, according to new research that finds that the brain responds to social rejection in the same way it responds to physical pain. The findings suggest that our need for inclusion is rooted in our aversion to pain."

Social exclusion activates the same regions as physical pain

We all know social media in large doses does us no good. This book showed just how bad it is, especially for developing brains.

I imagine parents and grandparents know all too well how difficult it is to manage their children's phone usage. Especially when pretty much every young person has a phone.

The data in this book shows just how steeply the rates of anxiety spiked during and after 2010, which is when social media appeared, is pretty terrifying.

Young people are missing out on so many experiences, due to normal childhoods now shifting dramatically towards screens.

This isn't about shaming anyone, we all need to work together, which i believe involves us adults leading the way and managing our own phone usage. Unfortunately, not as easy as we would like to believe.

One tiny way I try and limit my usage is leaving my phone downstairs overnight. So it's not the last thing I look at before bed or first thing I reach for in the morning :)

I enjoyed gaining an insight into the internal family systems model, reading this book.

All of us could easily distinguish the different parts we have and how they communicate with us and each other.

We can use this knowledge to get curious about what role they play in our wellbeing, what they're trying to tell us, or protect us from and how we can learn to listen.

I'm currently doing a short, online course about shame.

I just read this shared piece on why trauma is so difficult to talk about in counselling. So brilliantly worded, I thought it was most definitely worth a share :)

Why is talking about trauma so difficult - even in therapy?
