Some of you that have had a recent sight test may have used this machine.
We’ve heard people say, ‘It's a bit like a video game’ 🎮

What does it do❓️
🟡This test will assess your ability to detect flashes of light in your peripheral (outer) vision

Why do we use it ❓️
🟠 It detects early stages of glaucoma
🟣Detect any conditions that could be associated with headaches and other health issues.
🔵Detect areas of vision loss
🟢Measures your peripheral vision and how well you can see objects outside your direct line of sight

⭐️ Upcoming Fundraising Event⭐️

On the 24th of March we are going to be fundraising in-store for Asthma & Lung UK!

Members of the team are jumping on the bicycle and cycling as many miles as they can manage 🚲

The event is going to be live streamed on this page in the hopes of reaching our target of £500 raised for charity 🙏🏼 We will be tracking our milage and taking turns on the bike!

We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a nice day so that we can get open our grand doors to enjoy the sunshine too!🌞 So, fingers crossed everyone 🤞🏼

Meet The Team

This week we are celebrating Darren 🧔🏼‍♂️ the man who made it all possible! Darren started his 1st practice (Ludlow Specsavers) in 2007. A bit of back story ⏳️....
Darren studied optometry at UMIST, graduating in 2002. He completed his pre reg training in Cardiff under the guidance of David Woolf and Sasha Macken and registered with the GOC in 2003.

Since starting the practice in Ludlow, he has gone on to become a partner in the Leominster, Hereford and Ledbury Specsavers! Wow! 😱
His accomplishments
⭐️Chair of Herefordshire LOC, guiding future generations of opticians to better
practice.
⭐️ Higher Certificate in medical retina
⭐️Prof Certificate in Glaucoma
⭐️Independent Prescriber
⭐️ In 2024 became a founding member of the BHA (Border Health Alliance). An independent treatment centre with the aim of bringing high quality and timely cataract surgery and YAG capsulotomies
⭐️Member of the Specsavers Sustainability LPF (Leading partner forum)
⭐️Married to his beloved wife Nicola (his biggest achievement)
Amongst other accomplishments ..

Without Darren, we wouldn't be able to carry out the amazing services and care the team provide to the community daily.
So, thank you Darren for your overwhelming support & the knowledge you pass on.💚

WISE WEDNESDAY 🤔

I spy with my little eye, something beginning with “S”…👀

The sun is out — and we hope it’s here to stay. ☀️⛱️

We all know that sunscreen is a summer essential, helping to protect our skin from harmful UV rays while we’re out enjoying the warmer weather. But what about our eyes? 👁️‍🗨️

Sunglasses are often seen as a style accessory rather than an important form of protection. However, prolonged exposure to UV radiation without adequate eye protection can increase the risk of developing conditions such as cataracts and macular degeneration. In the short term, UV exposure may also cause light sensitivity, a gritty sensation, and watery eyes.

With this in mind, please remember to reach for your sunglasses as well as your sunscreen when you head outdoors. ⛱️

And if you don’t yet have a pair of sunglasses — what are you waiting for? 😎

Meet The Team 🔈

Each Monday, we want to celebrate a member of staff and their accomplishments.

Nicola 🎉

Nicola joined Ludlow Specsavers as a director in August 2010 and has been the heart and soul ever since. ❤️

She obtained her degree in Optometry from Cardiff University 👩🏻‍🎓 and has since gone one to further her career with Professional Certificates in both glaucoma and medical retina, as well as obtaining her independent prescribers qualification meaning that she can legally prescribe ocular medication. Supporting our patients within the ludlow community and reducing the ever growing strain on our NHS hospitals.

Over the years Nicola has participated in a number of charitable events including cutting off her long locks to raise money for Hope House & The Little Princess Trust. As well as running a half marathon to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease.

Thanks for your continued hard work, care and commitment to the whole team at Ludlow Specsavers and the whole Ludlow community, Nic. We don’t know what we’d do without you 💚
