Podiatrist or Foot Health Practitioner?
A podiatrist is a highly educated, medically trained specialist (also known as a chiropodist) who diagnoses and treats complex, long-term foot, ankle, and lower leg conditions, including performing surgery, prescribing medication, and managing conditions like diabetic foot ulcers, ingrowing toenails or musculoskeletal issues.
A Foot Health Practitioner (FHP) provides routine foot care and maintenance for common, less complex problems, such as nail trimming, corn and callus removal, and managing basic fungal infections, verucca management, diabetic foot assessment focusing on preventative care and advice for day-to-day foot health.
