🚗 We’re supporting ! 🚦
Let’s keep our babies and children safe every time they’re on the move.

Parents/Caregivers — take a moment to think:
❓ Is your vehicle safe for your child?
❓ Is their car seat fitted and used correctly?
❓ Do they travel in other people’s cars safely?
❓ Does your child know the basics of road safety?

🟡 Teach children to:
➡️ STOP, LOOK, LISTEN & THINK before crossing
➡️ Walk on pavements and hold an adult’s hand
➡️ Use pedestrian crossings
➡️ Wear bright / reflective clothing in low light
➡️ Avoid distractions like phones & headphones near roads

Every small action helps protect little lives. 💛

Have you ever filled a hot water bottle with boiling water? Many of us have — but it can weaken the bottle and cause dangerous burns.

👉 Let the water cool first.
Old bottles, overfilling and poor storage also increase the risk.

🚨Important information below from our colleagues Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service on travelling safely during Storm Claudia.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the county from 6am today (Friday) until 6am tomorrow (Saturday).

The warning is expected to increase to amber between midday and 23.59pm today (Friday).

❗️Please take extra care when travelling as heavy rainfall may cause disruption and surface water flooding.

Driving during Storm Claudia? 🌧️🚗

Heavy rain can make journeys more dangerous, so here are some key tips to help you stay safe on the roads today:
💧 Slow down and leave extra space as stopping distances increase in wet conditions.
💧 Use dipped headlights so you’re visible to other drivers.
💧 Avoid rear fog lights, as they can dazzle others and hide your brake lights.
💧 Watch for spray from larger or faster vehicles which can reduce visibility.
💧 Keep your air con on to stop windows misting up.
💧 Stay informed by listen to local news for updates on flooding, closures, and forecasts.
💧 If you aquaplane and steering feels light, ease off the accelerator (don’t brake) until you regain control.

Stay alert, drive carefully, and let’s all get home safe ❤️

⬇️** What you need to know **⬇️

| Off Road, Off Limits: E-scooters & E-Bikes

Bedfordshire Police is taking firm action against the illegal use of e-scooters and other e-vehicles in public places.

Offenders risk prosecution, fines, driving disqualification, or imprisonment, and vehicles may be seized and destroyed if ownership or insurance cannot be proven.

**What you need to know**

E-scooters and e-bikes are becoming increasingly popular gifts, especially for young people, but it’s vital to be aware of the legal risks before buying one.

🚫 Privately owned e-scooters and e-bikes cannot be insured, taxed, or put through an MOT, making their use in public spaces illegal.

🚫These vehicles are not road legal unless part of an approved rental scheme – there is currently no such scheme active in Bedfordshire.

🚫 If you are caught riding an e-scooter, e-bike, or any other off-road vehicle on a public road or in any other public space, your vehicle may be immediately seized and later destroyed.

🚫Some vehicles sold online or in person may have been stolen, and purchasing one could lead to prosecution for handling stolen goods.

🚫Riding any vehicle dangerously or disruptively in public places is an offence under the Road Traffic Act, and this includes e-scooters, quad bikes, and off-road motorcycles.

**Protect your property**

If you own an off-road vehicle for use on private land, mark it securely and store it out of sight in a locked shed or garage.
Registering your items at https://orlo.uk/ogOi7 increases the chances of recovery if they’re lost or stolen. For thefts and related crimes, report them at https://orlo.uk/wHWQz

**We’re taking action**

Operation Skytree is our high-impact initiative tackling nuisance vehicles using police motorbikes and drones, covert and overt patrols, and intelligence-led investigations.

Working closely with local authorities, the aim is to identify and disrupt nuisance riders across the county.

Remember, unless a vehicle is specifically designed and registered for road use, it can only be ridden on private land with the landowner’s permission.

If you notice nuisance vehicles in your area, you can report them by visiting https://orlo.uk/wHWQz and providing details about the incident and the rider.
