This is great news and mean more people are now eligible to sign up this wonderful cause with DKMS UK! Please tag and share with any young people you know who may be interested in adding their names to the register and potentially being able to help save a life at some point. ❤️💪

You may have noticed an important change at DKMS UK…

We are pleased to share that DKMS UK is expanding its stem cell donor registration age range. We now welcome potential donors aged 16 to 55, making DKMS the stem cell registry with the widest age range in the UK!

This decision follows research that shows patient outcomes can be improved when younger donors are chosen for stem cell transplants. By lowering the minimum registration age, we aim to increase the availability of optimal matches for patients in need of a lifesaving transplant.

Expanding our age range allows us to grow and diversify the registry, giving more patients a second chance at life.

If you are aged 16–55, we encourage you to find out about registering and becoming part of our vital mission to delete blood cancer. Already registered? Share this post with someone who needs to know!

Stair gate ✅ cupboard locks ✅ high-chair straps ✅ purse.....😬

You might think you have it covered when it comes to babyproofing your home. It's common sense, right?

You install the baby gate, you make sure your high chair has the right straps, you fit locks on the cupboard doors...but what about the coins in your purse or wallet? What about the paracetamol you leave in your handbag or bedside drawer? What about that TV remote control with the easy-open battery compartment?

There are so many everyday objects and items in our house that could pose a risk to our baby or toddler - a risk of choking, poisoning, burning, cutting, or falling.

Accidents will happen, and we can't always prevent them, but we can be as careful as we possibly can when it comes to everyday items in our household that our curious toddler or explorative baby might get hold of.

Take a look around your home today. Are the tall bookcases and cupboards fixed to the walls, are your hair straighteners out of reach, is your handbag or purse somewhere that your child could easily reach?

You don't know what you don't know when it comes to baby and child safety. Take a look at our babyproofing safety classes and check out our Mini First Aid baby & child first aid classes so that you can firstly prevent an accident happen, and secondly, know how to treat it if it does!

Every year in England around 370,000 children under 5 years old have an injury that requires a visit to a hospital. Around 40,000 will be admitted into hospital because of this injury and sadly around 50 may die.*

Your home feels safe, but for babies and toddlers, it can be full of hidden risks.

It’s important to know what hazards may be hiding in plain sight, how you can prevent accidents from happening in the first place and how to first respond to an accident should the worst happen.

In our classes each week, and throughout our network of trainers, many of whom also work in healthcare, we see or hear about the after-effects of home accidents on babies and toddlers all the time.

Sometimes this is what prompts a parent to come and take a first aid class with us - because they didn’t know what to do when an accident happened.

These are the home accidents we hear about most commonly:

⚠️ Falls
⚠️ Burns & Scalds
⚠️ Choking
⚠️ Poisoning
⚠️ Strangulation
⚠️ Drowning

Prevention is key. Prompt treatment is essential.

Mini First Aid can help in two ways - we offer a home safety/babyproofing class which can help you prevent accidents before they happen, and we have our award-winning baby & child first aid class to teach you everything you need to know about how to treat your baby or child if the worst happens.

Don’t leave keeping your baby safe to chance, head to the classes tab on our website now to see classes in your area.

You probably know a child who would be described as being “on the spectrum”, or who has had or is waiting for a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

But are there really more children living with autism now than a few decades ago, or are we simply better at spotting the signs and diagnosing now?

We chatted with Dr Hannah Hobson, a lecturer in Psychology who leads a specialist research lab on autism and language disorders. Hannah has answered lots of commonly asked questions and helps to dispel the many myths and misunderstandings about autism and the autism ‘spectrum’.

You can listen to our chat on our podcast - just search Family Health by Mini First Aid wherever you get your podcasts and head to episode 26.
