www.meloyogastudio.com Hi there, I founded Melo Yoga Studio in response to the Covid-19 situation.
When the first lockdown ended, I was told I could have a maximum of 5 in the hall I used to rent. I usually required a minimum if 6 to run a class- it was clear to me that the world of teaching yoga was forever going to be changed. In March I learned that the way of teaching online- whilst not the same as a public class- has it’s own unique pluses. Having been a yoga instructor in three countries over 14 years… I have been to 1000s of classes as a student, I’ve trained with and met with a variety of teachers and styles. I’m also aware that there are some demographics I am just not the best teacher for… I can teach a range of styles- I think it’s important to find a teacher for everyone that best suits their specialisms. We go to the teachers that best resonate with things we, ourselves, value. I always say to people- “find a teacher that you like as a person- find a teacher that you believe cares about you. “
The best form of exercise is one that you will do: whether that’s a sweaty vinyasa class at 730pm on a Friday, or a wheel class at 10am on a Sunday, or a relaxing evening class - there’s a world of variety in yoga to be explored and enjoyed. If a style is great, it doesn’t mean any teacher can teach it … I’m wary of the teachers that try to teach everything and whilst I’ve covered classes that aren’t my own and done ok, I feel a lack of satisfaction when I know there are teachers that are better suited to that niche. It’s important to me to get behind teachers I know are authentic in what they teach- I can’t be everything to everyone…
For example, I don’t teach prenatal/ postnatal anymore, but there’s such great benefits, I wanted to bring a variety of teachers that I am happy to endorse, that can teach things they study and believe in, whilst I focused on what I do and love. Hopefully when I teach you can tell how much I love yoga. I have been working so so so hard on this new site:

Public classes are suitable for all levels of experience, please contact me to discuss requirements.
Yin Yoga
Yin postures focus on the connective tissue of the joints (denser tissues such as fascia, ligaments, tendons) through passive stretches, performed gently and safely. This provides greater flexibility and a sense of ease and lightness in the body.
Energy (prana or chi) is believed to flow through the channels (nadis or meridians) of the connective tissue layer of the body. Yin Yoga practice can therefore enable the harmonious flow of life-energy through the clearing of these path-ways. This enables the body organs to function better.
It is blockages in these energy channels that are believed to lead to symptoms such as feelings of numbness in the extremities after long periods of sitting still. Therefore regular practice of Yin Yoga can enhance the ease of sitting still, whether this is at work, on transport, or in meditation.
The sense of well-being cultivated in this style of yoga uniquely enhances experience of meditation and relaxation, yet also enhances yang practices.
Yin and Yang (all my current classes are Yin & Yang mixed).
By practicing yin postures when the muscles are not yet warm, energy can reach the deeper connective tissues of the joints and the energy pathways of the meridian system that are housed here.
As chi, prana, or 'life force' stimulates and tones the joints' deep connective tissues, the supply of fluids to them is increased. As a result the joints become 'juicier', less dense and more flexible. You can then go deeper in a proceeding yang practice with less effort, as energy is already flowing at deeper levels. The attitude cultivated in a yin practice can also keep you from over-exertion in yang practices, preventing injury.
The main difference between yin and yang styles of yoga is the inner attitude adopted. Whilst a yang practice may be focused on achievement and advancement in poses, a yin practice focuses on gaining inner harmony and peace. This is done through cultivating a patient acceptance of the reality as it is.
By patiently and gently working with the recognised limitations in poses, instead of fighting against them, a wonderful sense of balance, calm and acceptance is achieved.
The 'rush' that can be said to be achieved from an active 'yang' sequence is replaced by a sense of ease as you settle into the postures. By simply recognising the sensations of your body, you can practice an attitude of awareness with non-reaction.
Yang Yoga
Yang Yoga describes Yoga that uses movement linked to breath. Vinyasa Yoga falls into this category, as does most Hatha Yoga you will have likely come across.
These classes are designed to get the body moving, steadily and fluidly, increasing heat in the body. The cardiovascular system will be strengthened, muscular strength and tone improved, stamina and endurance will be built, and balance increased.
Men’s only Yoga
I have long wanted to share the benefits of Yoga with more men, as I meet so many that say "I've always wanted to try Yoga but I'm just not flexible enough".
I feel men could really benefit from a class or course, but I understand completely why some men may be disinclined to attend a mixed class.
These classes do away with many of the aspects of Yoga classes which can put men off, focusing on the areas of strength and range of motion men find most beneficial to work on.
Men have reported liking Yoga more than they thought they would.
After attending these classes men have reported feeling good and stretched out, more mentally at ease and a reduction in (even an eradication of) their aches and pains.
These classes are very popular so booking is essential.
