Hi all!

Solent Hearing has now switched over to become part of the Rawlings Opticians and Hearing Care group.

Peter has now moved to Gibraltar permanently, and wanted his ethos of personal and caring service to continue. Which is why he has handed over the reigns to Rawlings with Bill Mills, the Audiology Lead stepping into Peters shoes.

Rawlings have a heritage of 127 years in healthcare, firstly as opticians and and in more recent times in hearing care.

Microsuction
This is now the most common method of wax removal and is often referred to as the "gold standard". Here at Solent Hearing we use an endoscope for microsuction procedures. This state of the art equipment allows us to take high definition digital ear inspections and perform safe and effective wax removal - which you can even watch live!
Irrigation
Involves flushing the ear canal out with preheated water under controlled pressure. In some cases the ear canal can be too narrow for micro suction and irrigation would therefore be the most suitable option. It is also particularly effective for quickly and safely removing a foreign body in the ear canal.

Ear health is important and I would encourage everyone to have their hearing checked regularly. These checks are usually free and if anything can give you simple peace of mind.
Symptoms of a hearing loss can vary but the most common ones include: misunderstanding people, asking people to repeat themselves, struggling to follow conversations in noisy environments, turning up the TV or radio, a ringing or buzzing in the ear (tinnitus). Hearing loss does not discriminate and its onset can leave people feeling frustrated, embarrassed and angry. It is also a condition that affects those around you as they also can feel frustrated, leading to a cycle of despair.
