Unfortunately, I have been advised by my governing organisation that I am not allowed to work at all in tier 4. I have cancelled all appointments to 13 January when the next review is, in the hope we may get back to tier 3. Will update you as soon as I know what is happening.

So after a really strange week which has been an emotional rollercoaster, I have received an email from the SMA telling me that it has been agreed that I can work after all! To quote the email “all sports massage therapies to continue working under the umbrella of "other medical or health services””

I am not allowed to do maintenance massages (this is the same for all my colleagues regardless of their qualification level) but I am permitted “to treat a client for a clinical need (i.e. a medical condition) therefore the treatment will not comprise of general massage but will treat a specific injury/condition with appropriate techniques.”

If you feel you need such support and help during lockdown please contact me directly and we can do a “Virtual Consultation” and if appropriate I can then treat you in my treatment room.

I hope to commence regular treatments if permitted to do so on Wednesday 2nd December, so will update you nearer the time

So have had an update from the SMA and unfortunately I am unable to stay open for 2 reasons.

Firstly I don’t have separate access to my treatment room as it is in my house.

Secondly I don’t have the level of qualification that permits me to work. The experience I have gained whilst treating my lovely does not count towards my ability to practice. My qualification is certainly good enough to allow me to work under normal circumstances and I have gained additional knowledge and experience as and when new challenges arise.

So sorry - the will be some excellent sports masseurs who are allowed to remain open who can help you during my lockdown. I do hope that you will come back to me once I am permitted to open again and I will let you know when as soon as I can start back to work.

Well BoJo has decreed I must shut my treatment room again from Wednesday evening.

Unfortunately, the qualification I worked so hard for is not recognised as being of great value in support of both physical and mental wellbeing as well as offering an alternative to doctors and hospitals visits for muscular issues. It’s wrong and an insult that my profession is included in the massage parlour sector.

I am happy to give my wonderful clients any help, support and advice that I can via phone, text, messenger etc so please do not hesitate to contact me.

I will re-open as soon as I am allowed - in the meantime thank you for all your support and kindness for my much loved work.
