Have you ever been told not to bend /lift /twist? Or are you scared of doing these things?
How did that advice go down? was it helpful? or impossible and frustrating?
After all our bodies are designed to do all these things so when we can’t what then?
Now I don’t want to discount the fact there are some occasions where this advice may be of critical importance to follow, however this ‘advice’ is often said because it is historically something that has been advised - similar to the if it hurts don’t do it kind of advice.
My job would be very boring and unrewarding if I simply told people not to do things that hurt them.
Instead I love my job, I love the challenge of helping people to navigate and overcome their challenges and get back to doing the things they love.
There is no one way, no recipie, no quick fix machine or exercise, no one size fits all but if you are in pain or struggling with movement and want to make a start at getting better I often start working with people by asking them to undertake an audit, an audit of their pleasure, pain, activity, inactivity, triggers, thoughts, fears, environment, - because all these things can affect movement and pain, and because we are all individual, so beware of the 5 top exercises to fix back pain or don’t do this /that videos - click bait one size fits all approach.
