A few of my clients have recently asked me if Pilates helped me through childbirth, and at first when asked on the spot I just remembered the very, very long labour (more than 30 hours), and thought perhaps...no not so much! 😅
However having thought a little more about it, the answer would have to be a resounding YES, it most certainly helped!!
I practised Pilates right through my pregnancy, and got straight back to it (gently at first) within days of having my little girl.
I continued to enjoy all of my favourite activities throughout the pre & post natal period - both with bump, and soon after with my little girl (she was just three weeks in this photo).
Sure I had to slow down, and modify where necessary- but Pilates I believe, was the tool that kept both my mind and body open and able to adapt to ever changing circumstances.
I believe that it helped to:
🍃 Reduce swelling
🍃 Keep joints stabilised
🍃 Maintain/regain posture
🍃 Reduce fatigue
🍃 Relieve stress
🍃 Bring a sense of calm
🍃 Build body awareness
