At Ablewell, it’s incredibly important that we work closely with our clients on their goals and outcomes. These goals can be big or small — from visiting the shops again, cooking a meal independently, washing unaided, or learning how to use an iPad to stay connected with family. 💙

At Ablewell, learning never stands still — and this week’s in-house training session proved exactly why 👏

We came together to focus on medication training, giving our team the chance to refresh skills, build confidence, and learn from one another. What made it extra special? The conversations that followed. Sharing experiences, asking questions, and openly discussing real-life situations helps turn training into something meaningful and practical.

Our team told us they really enjoyed the session — everyone learns differently, and these workshops give space for everyone to get involved. Even better, our more experienced staff shared real-life stories that helped newer team members understand the topic on a deeper level 💬

💙 Supporting Better Care Through Learning 💙

Our Ablewell team has begun the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism — an important step in making sure we continue to provide safe, compassionate and informed care to everyone we support.

This vital training helps health and social care professionals develop the right skills and understanding when caring for autistic people and people with a learning disability. It’s named after Oliver McGowan, whose story highlighted just how important the right training can be in preventing avoidable harm.

The Health and Care Act 2022 now requires CQC-registered providers like Ablewell to ensure staff receive appropriate learning disability and autism training, and the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is the recommended national standard.

By taking part, our team is strengthening their knowledge, improving communication, and learning how to make meaningful adjustments that reduce health inequalities and improve outcomes.

Together, through learning and awareness, we can help prevent tragedies like Oliver’s and ensure care is always delivered with dignity, understanding and respect 💙
