In partnership with Citizens Advice Cheshire North, our local Macmillan Benefits Advisors are here to help you claim the benefits you might be entitled to.

They will conduct a free assessment to identify eligible benefits like PIP, Attendance Allowance, Universal Credit and ESA. They can offer help completing complex application forms.

Key findings from Macmillan Cancer Support research reveal that:

💚 Four in five cancer patients in the UK face an average financial hit of £570 to £891 per month.

💚 Three in four people with cancer experience a loss of income.

💚 Over half of patients see an increase in daily living costs including things like increased energy bills and travel.

Our Macmillan Benefits Advisors are here to help money be one less worry.

Contact Sue and Claire to be referred to our Macmillan Benefits Advisor on 01625 663128 or 663129 or email ecn-tr.macmillaninfosupport@nhs.uk or drop into our service based in the reception area of The Christie at Macclesfield.

Experiencing taste changes while on treatment? World Cancer Research Fund has lots of tips to help with this.

Cancer and cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and certain medications can affect the way food and drinks taste. Food may taste unpleasant, bland, metallic, sweet or salty. Though these taste changes are often temporary, there are things you can do to help, like serving foods cold or at room temperature.

Ahead of , Melanoma UK was represented at an event held at 10 Downing Street, bringing together charities, people with lived experience, and professionals working on the frontline of cancer care.

Our CEO, Tracy Paine , attended alongside organisations from across the rare and less common cancer community, including fellow members of Cancer52.

Events like this matter. They reflect growing collaboration between charities and government, and a shared commitment to improving outcomes for everyone affected by cancer.

🌍 World Cancer Day
4 February 2026 🌍

Today is about coming together, raising awareness, and recognising that every cancer experience is unique. At Macmillan Information and Support in Macclesfield, we see every day that cancer affects far more than just physical health — it impacts emotional wellbeing, family life, finances, work, and identity.

As we reflect on World Cancer Day, we’re also taking a moment to look back on Claire and Sue’s two and a half years in post, supporting people affected by cancer across Macclesfield. During this time, they have worked alongside individuals and families to address their unique needs — listening, guiding, advocating, and helping people feel less alone at some of the most challenging points in their lives.

The photos we’re sharing today capture just some of the initiatives and resources we’ve introduced to better support people affected by cancer — safe spaces to talk, practical support, wellbeing activities, and connections that make a real difference.

💚 Thank you to everyone who has accessed the service, supported our work, and helped us continue to grow.

Today, and every day, we stand with people affected by cancer — because no one should face it alone.
