✨ Honoured to Speak at The Lighthouse Charity North West Dinner ✨

I had the honour of speaking at the Lighthouse Charity North West dinner last night, and it was genuinely wonderful to see everyone.

A huge thank you to Fiona and the entire team for all the hard work they put into creating such an amazing evening. Your dedication to supporting mental health and well-being in our industry shines through in everything you do.

I am very proud to be part of this journey and it wouldn’t be possible to do any of if it wasn’t for all the amazing people and company’s that attended last nights dinner. Thank you all! 🙌💛

It’s Monday morning and I’m getting ready to head out to site to deliver talks about support that’s out there for construction workers and there family’s.

Following on from last weeks popular video about working away I thought I would show people my route when I’m working away and what I do to look after myself.

If you work away let me know in the comments what you do to look after yourself and what are your routines.

End of another great week out on site delivering talks to construction workers. Catching up with team mates and friends also having a banging curry.

I managed to sneak 60 miles of riding in after work this week. People always ask me how I look after my mental health and cycling is a big one for me. It’s not only the riding but the prep cleaning and planing I enjoy.

Had a video do really well this week hopefully I can do the same next week.

Things that didn’t go so well this week. I didn’t manage to get back for my youngest son’s birthday that was hard. I also didn’t manage to get my weekly checkin out but that will change next week I promise.

Over all a good week looking forward to next week. I am going to be working in Manchester most of next week so that’s always nice.

Let me know in the comments below how your week was?

Thanks
Rob

Working away isn’t just part of the job — it’s a sacrifice. The hardest part isn’t the graft, the travel, or the long days… it’s missing out on the little moments at home. Birthdays, school runs, family meals — the things we’ll never get back. 💔I know I’m not the only one in construction who feels this. We work hard to provide, but sometimes the cost feels heavy. If you’ve ever worked away, how do you cope with being away from your family? Let’s open up the conversation — you never know who might need to hear they’re not alone.”*

This week has been a different kind of busy… not work, not long drives, but FAMILY.

I’ve had my three boys with me all week, and it’s been full of adventures: 🚴‍♂️ bike rides through the Peak District, ⛺ camping (even if it was just outside the flat!), ⚽ football, and plenty of laughs.

It hasn’t always been easy being a dad, especially working in construction and spending so much time on the road. But weeks like this remind me how important it is to make the most of every moment, and to keep working on myself through therapy so I can show up better for them.

In this week’s episode, I share what we got up to, what I’ve learned about myself, and I launch a brand-new feature: Song of the Week 🎶. This time it’s Killeagh by Kingfishr (added to the new Weekly Check-in Spotify playlist).

🧠 5 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Mental Health in Construction 👷‍♂️
This isn’t just about “having a bad day” mental health on UK building sites is a real crisis, and most people don’t even realise how bad it is…

Here’s what every worker and every site manager needs to know 👇

1️⃣ Two construction workers a day take their own lives — nearly 4x higher than the UK average
2️⃣ 97% of workers feel stressed at least once a month
3️⃣ 95% say poor mental health affects their focus (which leads to accidents)
4️⃣ Long hours & job stress are the biggest triggers — especially for those on day rates
5️⃣ Investing in mental health = £5 back for every £1 spent (less absence, better morale, safer sites)

🎙️ 3 Podcasts. 1 Week. All Heart. 💛🏗️

It’s been a big one for the MYH Podcast—we were down in Surrey this week and managed to record 3 powerful episodes focused on mental health in construction.

👷‍♂️ Lee – an honest catch-up with my good mate, talking through some big life changes.

🪚 Liam – a carpenter from near London, opened up about the battles he’s faced this past year and how reaching out helped massively.

🔧 Bob – recently self-employed, shared what it’s really like making that leap and looking after his well-being on site.

Massive thank you to all 3 guests—you’re the reason we do this. This industry is built on people, and it’s time we talked about how we’re really doing.

Back2Back Talks | Real Conversations About Mental Health on a Live Construction Site 🏗️🧠

Welcome to Back2Back Talks, a powerful new video series where we take the hard hats off—just for a minute—and start real conversations about mental health in construction.

In this episode, we’re on a busy live construction site in Manchester, right in the heart of the action. Two construction workers sit back-to-back, surrounded by the noise, movement, and pressure of the job site. But instead of just cracking on with work talk, we get them chatting about something way more important: mental health and well-being.

This isn’t therapy. This isn’t rehearsed. This is just two blokes and two woman on site being honest—about how they’re doing, how life has affected them, and why it’s OK to speak up when things get tough.

Back2Back Talks is all about showing that talking about mental health doesn’t make you weak. It makes you real. It makes you human. And it shows real courage.

If you're part of the UK construction industry—whether you're a builder, brickie, spark, site manager, or apprentice—this one’s for you. You're not alone. These stories are YOUR stories.
