It was only when I found a more embodied way to move my body did I truly feel connected to myself and understand my internal rhythm. And since then, I have not been back to THAT place again.
Yes I love yoga, it’s great for so many reasons, however have some styles of classes really just become about performance and what it looks like? Is the ego really getting in the way of moving with YOUR intuition and not what someone is telling you to do, and to hold the pose for ‘ so many breaths’ …, you know your body better than anyone…. You breathe is unique to you!
When yoga becomes a workout, it’s keeping our nervous system in flight or flight, not being aware of any tension and pushing through regardless, missing the signs of physical and emotional exhaustion.
I still enjoy a dynamic class as a lot of people do, however can we not have more agency over our bodies and express how we want to move within that flow?
It was .zalewska.yoga classes that helped me discover this intuitive way of moving while still being in the ‘container’ of a vinysa flow.
I accidentally ended up in a rocket class recently and although it’s not my usual style of class, I made it my own, I flowed with the movements but within my own capacity that day, I no longer enjoy holding poses for too long, I don’t count breaths, I rest when I need too. My body as a women in her mid 40s, it just doesn’t feel comfortable for me to hold difficult positions for a long time.
I find structure through going to the gym to lift weights and I love a barre class, but for me yoga has always been about coming back to myself and moving in an intuitive, non linear way.
There is power in truly knowing how your body wants to move.
