The Joy of Missing Out (JOMO) is the gentle opposite of FOMO.

Instead of worrying about what we’re not doing, JOMO invites us to appreciate where we are and what we already have.

In a world that encourages us to stay busy and keep up, choosing to do less can be a powerful act of self-care.

JOMO is about enjoying a quiet evening or a walk on the beach, saying no without guilt, and protecting your time and energy.

It’s not about withdrawing from life — it’s about being intentional with what you choose.

Closely linked to JOMO is the idea of Unwanting — letting go of the constant need for more. When we stop chasing every opportunity, we create space for calm, clarity, and contentment.

Sometimes missing out isn’t a loss — it’s exactly what we need for our wellbeing.

Doing less doesn’t mean missing out.

Sometimes it means living more fully in the moment.

Regular cold water dipping can offer a range of physical health benefits and leave you feeling refreshed and energised.

When you enter cold water, your body responds by increasing circulation as it works to maintain core temperature. Over time, this can support improved blood flow and leave you with that familiar warm, glowing feeling after a dip.

Cold water immersion may also help reduce muscle soreness and inflammation, making it a popular recovery tool after exercise. Many people find that regular dipping helps them feel less stiff and more physically refreshed.

The shock of the cold also encourages deeper breathing and activates the body, helping you feel more awake and alert.

Even short, regular dips can help build physical resilience and support overall wellbeing. And remember - a cold shower is also a great way to make sure you experience the benefits of cold water.

Start gently, listen to your body, and enjoy the refreshing benefits that cold water can bring.

Sometimes wellbeing can start to feel like pressure instead of support.

Instead of asking “How can I do more my life?” people are asking “How can I feel better?”

Because numbers don’t tell the whole story. You can hit your goals and still feel exhausted or overwhelmed.

True wellbeing is about more than metrics — it’s about energy, balance and enjoyment.

This shift is about moving from pressure to presence and from perfection to self-compassion.

Goals still matter, but how you feel matters more.

Sometimes the best wellbeing habits aren’t the most impressive — they’re the ones that help you feel calmer, lighter and more like yourself.

Maybe wellbeing isn’t about performing better.

Maybe it’s about feeling better.

You can read more about how the focus of wellbeing is shifting on our recent blog.

Regular cold water dipping can have a powerful impact on mental wellbeing.

Remember - a cold shower is a great way to regularly practice cold water therapy; you don't need an outside tub or access to a supervised local lake.

Although the initial cold can feel challenging, many people notice a sense of calm and clarity soon after leaving the water. The experience encourages steady breathing, which helps regulate the body’s stress response and can reduce feelings of anxiety.

Cold water also brings you fully into the present moment. The intensity of the sensation helps quiet racing thoughts and creates a natural sense of mindfulness. With regular dipping, this can become a reliable way to reset and step away from daily pressures.

Many dippers also report improved mood and increased resilience over time. Choosing to enter the water, especially on difficult days, can build confidence and a strong sense of achievement.

Even a short, regular dip can support a calmer mind and a more balanced day.

From Quick Fixes to Sustainable Health

For years, wellbeing has been built around quick fixes — crash diets, intense plans and dramatic transformations. They promise fast results, but often don’t last.

Now we’re seeing a shift. Instead of asking “How quickly can I change?” more people are asking “What can I maintain?”

Real wellbeing isn’t built overnight. It comes from small, consistent habits that fit into everyday life — a short walk, an earlier night, a few mindful minutes in your day. These simple actions might seem small, but over time they make a real difference.

Sustainable health is about progress, not perfection. Missing a day doesn’t mean failure — it just means starting again.

The habits that work best aren’t the extreme ones. They’re the ones you can return to, again and again.

Do what you enjoy - yoga, cold water, visit galleries, get outside, skiing...your actions and your wellbeing is as unique as you are.

Small steps. Consistent action. Lasting change.

External challenges will always exist — but sometimes the biggest limits are the ones we place on ourselves.

Our beliefs shape our choices, and our choices shape our opportunities. Not long ago, we’d never have imagined running sessions at a summer festival combining yoga, sauna and cold water. It started with being open to the opportunity — and saying yes.

Growth often begins when we challenge the quiet voice that says “I can’t” or “That’s not for me.”

Take a moment to reflect:
* Where might self-doubt be holding you back?
* What might change if you took one small step forward?

Confidence isn’t built overnight. It grows through small, consistent actions and a willingness to try. And every small win counts.

Sometimes the first step is simply believing that change is possible.

Our Story

Yoga Tonic UK is comprised of Tim and Shannon Phillis who are both RYT200 yoga teachers (YogaLondon). We teach classes from our home gym in Cookham, near Maidenhead and Marlow. Tim has enjoyed sports all his life, starting with team sports in school through to ultra-distance running and triathlon. After suffering a knee injury, Tim took up yoga to strengthen the muscles around his knee and core. Tim is a mindful teacher and has vast experience coaching teams, triathlon clubs and circuits classes. Shannon has had a love of running and cycling for years and started taking up yoga regularly when moving to the UK from California in 2000. Shannon always wanted to become a yoga teacher but got distracted with triathlon, where she met her husband in the slow swimmers lane at Fulham pools. Yoga used to be a supplement rather than a training session but if ever missing a week of yoga, the muscles would feel it. Tim and Shannon now believe that yoga can be a training session on it's own but instead of just focusing the body, it also focuses the mind improving overall well being (a bit cliche but true). All are welcome and feedback is always appreciated!
