This week it wasn’t just the young people who were excited to get out on the bank with us for our HAF programme šŸŽ£

The local residents at Little Easton Manor were also keeping a close eye on the water, eager to see if anyone would land a fish! The fish were definitely playing very hard to get and bites were few and far between… but persistence paid off — one determined young person managed to catch herself a carp šŸ‘šŸŸ

Moments like this aren’t just about fishing. They’re about patience, confidence, fresh air, making new friendships, and that incredible sense of achievement when it all comes together.

Well done to everyone who took part this week — despite the cold weather you all showed fantastic attitude. Thanks, as always, goes to and

It might have been a cold one out there today, and the fish definitely weren’t playing along… but what a brilliant session all the same. Sometimes the best days are the ones where you simply get outside, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy the world around you.

Our young people made the most of the quiet water, using the time to search for worms and practice their understanding of casting and really hone their skills. No catches, but plenty of progress.

And of course, a huge thank you to Angie for keeping everyone warm with hot drinks and conversation.

Here’s to more days where connection matters more than the catch.

This week, as part of Children’s Mental Health Week, we’ve been exploring how space matters 🌿

Space to breathe.
Space to think.
Space to just be.

For young people, having a safe, calm place outdoors can make such a difference to confidence, resilience and wellbeing. Watching them find their quiet moment by the water has been powerful.

But here’s the reminder… it’s not just children who need that space.

As adults, we need it too.
Time away from the noise.
A pause from the pressure.
A place where the only ripple is on the water, not in our minds.

Whether it’s a walk, time by the lake, or a rod in hand — giving ourselves permission to step back isn’t selfish, it’s essential.

Where is your space? šŸ’š

For Day 4 of Children’s Mental Health Week, we’re continuing to look at what 'This Is My Space' means to our young people. For Dexter, other clubs or busy environments can feel overwhelming. Fishing offers a sense of calm and a boost in confidence that’s hard to find anywhere else. It’s not just about the catch; it’s about the clarity.

Why "My Space" is so important:
The Power of Quiet: In a world that’s always on the go, having a hobby that encourages stillness helps regulate the nervous system.

Self-Esteem: Mastering a skill like casting or patience gives young people a sense of pride that carries over into everyday life.

Emotional Safety: Your "space" is where you can be yourself without the pressure to perform or keep up.

What does your "space" look like? Is it playing sports, time with your family, or a walk outdoors?

Let’s celebrate the places that make us feel good. Share your space in the comments!

Continuing our posts today we hear a parents perspective.
In this beautiful and honest video, Angie shares how fishing has become her son’s safe place—a calm, grounding space where he can reset, connect, and feel truly at ease.

For him, the water, the quiet, and the gentle rhythm of fishing create a sense of safety that helps him manage the world around him. It’s a reminder that a ā€œplaceā€ doesn’t have to be a room or a building. Sometimes it’s an activity, a moment, or a feeling.

This story captures exactly what This Is My Place is all about. In our work, we see how powerful it is when children find something that helps them feel secure, regulated, and understood. We’re committed to helping families discover those spaces—whatever they look like.

Finding My Place Outdoors 🌿
In today’s video, Shay shares why the lakeside has become his "calm place." For Shay, fishing isn’t just a hobby—it’s a space where the weight of his disabilities simply eases out, replaced by the steady rhythm of the water.

For many young people like Shay, nature provides a unique kind of therapy that a classroom or a clinic can't match:
* A Sense of Achievement: Landing a catch builds incredible confidence.
* Quiet Focus: The patience required for fishing helps clear the mental "noise" and grounds the mind in the present moment.
* Freedom from Labels: Outdoors there are no barriers—just the air, the water, and the next big bite.

Shay’s story is a powerful reminder that a "place" doesn't have to be complicated. It just needs to be somewhere you feel safe, steady, and truly yourself. Supporting young people as they discover these spaces is at the heart of our work, and we’re proud to champion these stories during
