💛 Dear friends — I need to share this, in case someone out there is feeling what I felt. 💛
Back in August 2024, my serum ferritin was 4 µg/L.
Yes… four.
I basically had the iron stores of a rusty paperclip.
At the time, I was working as a secondary school teacher — which, as everyone in England knows, is not just a job but a full Olympic event with a national shortage attached. I was showing up every day smiling, but inside I was dizzy, breathless, exhausted, forgetful, and bleeding twice a month without understanding why.
I kept thinking:
“Oh, this must be perimenopause… lovely.”
But it wasn’t just perimenopause.
It was severe iron deficiency hiding inside it.
No one connected the dots for me.
So I had to become my own detective.
Here’s what finally changed everything:
🟡 Iron bisglycinate — the gentle, highly absorbable kind (the one in the photo)
🟡 Always with Vitamin C
🟡 Often on an empty stomach
🟡 And the real hero: the Mirena IUD, which finally stopped the nonstop bleeding
🟡 Estrogen HRT supporting the whole system
It was slow at first… painfully slow.
My ferritin crawled from:
4 → 17 → 20 → 40 µg/L
I honestly thought I’d never get out of that hole.
But once the bleeding stopped, everything changed.
My body could finally rebuild.
📈 And today — I just got my latest blood test back — my ferritin is 108 µg/L!!!
Thanks to the Mirena IUD controlling the bleeding, my iron stores finally had a chance to rise.
From barely functioning to fully alive again!!!
My brain is back.
My energy is back.
My heart isn’t racing.
I feel like myself — not a Victorian ghost floating around Tesco.
I’m not sharing this as medical advice.
I’m sharing this because so many women (and people in general) are struggling with:
• crushing fatigue
• breathlessness
• anxiety
• hair loss
• memory issues
• “I don’t feel like myself”
• heavy or frequent periods
And they have no idea their iron could be the problem.
So, dear friends — if this sounds familiar:
📌 Please ask for a ferritin test.
(Haemoglobin alone won’t catch it.)
📌 Know that iron bisglycinate is a gentler form that made a huge difference for me.
📌 And know that you’re not imagining it — your body might just be desperately asking for help.
Reaching 108 µg/L feels like a small miracle to me.
And if sharing this helps even one person catch it earlier, then it was worth it. 💛✨
If anyone wants to talk or ask questions, message me anytime.
You’re not alone.
