MTW opened both โ€˜REMAP-CAPโ€™ and the โ€˜GenOMICCโ€™ study where both trials were required to recruit patients with a chest infection or an emerging chest infection. These studies were opened pre-pandemic; this meant that the Intensive Care Team were able to recruit some of the first patients admitted for COVID-19 to a trial, thereby offering the patients novel treatments where there was no standard of care available yet. ๐Ÿฅ

The MTW Oncology Breast Team are currently the number 1 recruiter in the world for the PALMIRA study. This trial is looking at different ways of treating advanced breast cancer that cannot be treated with surgery or radiation therapy. The trial focuses on patients that have been previously treated with a drug called Palbociclib as well as an endocrine therapy. Within this trial, the patients will be treated with Palbociclib, and potentially another endocrine therapy, or with just endocrine therapy alone. ๐Ÿ’™

January is .

Here at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust we participate in the Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) BioResource, which is part of the NIHR BioResource.

This study aims to understand the genetics and natural history of NAFLD, and investigate the impact of co-morbidities. It is hoped that this study will also help develop a centralised national recallable BioResource of NAFLD patients to support scientific and clinical NAFLD research in the future. This includes collecting and storing blood as well as clinical and lifestyle data, and creating a bank of recallable volunteers to help with further research.

We want to thank all participants for their contributions to this important study ๐Ÿ˜Š
