Not all effort is visible.

Many people living with brain injury and neurological conditions, and those supporting them, carry more than others realise.

Just because someone seems to be coping well doesn't mean it isn't hard.

What’s something you wish more people understood about invisible challenges?

Not all effort is visible.

Many people living with neurological conditions, and those supporting them, are struggling more than you realise to stay afloat.

Just because someone appears to be coping well doesn’t mean it’s easy.

What’s something you wish people understood more about invisible challenges?

Today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

In clinical and rehabilitation fields, scientific knowledge is ingrained in how we assess, adapt, problem-solve, and support recovery every day.

Yet many of the scientific contributions that shape neurorehabilitation were developed or advanced by women whose work hasn’t always been equally visible or credited.

Creating space for visibility, progression, and leadership in science-led roles it directly influences the quality, depth, and innovation of clinical practice... it is more than simply representation.

As a female led and predominantly female service, we are proud to celebrate the women who paved the way for our practice today.

Which women (past or present) have influenced your learning, thinking, or clinical approach? 👇

🌟 Meet Austin Tooze, Assistant Line Manager 🌟

🎓 Austin graduated from the University of Leicester in 2021 with a BSc in Psychology and began his career in a fast-paced A&E department, developing strong patient care skills. He then moved into a brain injury hospital, where his passion for neurorehabilitation grew.

🧠 Austin joined BIS Services in 2022 and works with a wide range of neurorehhabilitation clients. He completed a secondment as an Assistant Psychologist, working alongside experienced neuropsychologists in a slow-stream rehabilitation setting, and has contributed blogs for the NR teams to raise awareness of challenges faced by CRAs.

He now works as an Assistant Line Manager at BIS Services, supporting and managing CRAs alongside the Line Management Team.

🏉 Outside of work, Austin is an avid sportsman, and you'll find him playing rugby in the winter and cricket in the summer.

A huge congratulations to Jeena Eari, winner of our Client Success Stories Poster Competition 🎉

Jeena’s poster beautifully showcased a client’s rehabilitation journey, highlighting progress, clinical skill, and the skilful, person-centred support she delivers.

We’re so proud to create opportunities at BIS Services for our CRAs to develop, reflect, and celebrate the incredible work they do, much of which happens behind the scenes.

Drop a 👏 to congratulate Jeena!

“I may carry my brain injury well. That doesn’t mean it isn’t heavy.”

You may see me coping, adapting, and continuing, and think that I am doing well. Underneath, it is taking everything I everything I have.

The impact of my brain injury isn't always visible. Try to see beyond the surface.

Today we’re proud to celebrate a huge milestone: 15 years of Eky Popat at BIS Services!

Having started wit us as a Cognitive Rehabilitation Assistant all those years ago, Eky now stands as our Operations Director and Registered Manager, reflecting her dedication, expertise, and leadership within the BIS and the wider neurorehab field.

Eky is one of only a small number of Certified Brain Injury Specialists in the UK. She is also a passionate advocate for raising awareness and standards in the sector, serving as Vice Chair of Acquired Brain Injury London and contributing widely through published articles and sector collaboration.

Eky is an integral part of BIS Services and knows the organisation inside and out. She is a steady pillar within our team - mentor, a role model, a champion of best practice and a constant source of guidance and support. Quite simply, we don’t know what we would do without her.

Thank you Eky, for 15 incredible years and everything you bring to BIS Services. 💙

If you could speak to yourself early after brain injury, what would you say?

Often the biggest lessons or the words we needed most come with time and experience. Progress in rehab can bring clarity that you wish you knew at the start.

If you’re comfortable, leave your message below. Someone else might really benefit from your advice.

On Friday, came together in London for a company-wide away day focused on learning, adaptability and putting our values into practice.

From a real-world client challenge (no phones, a cash budget and plenty of curveballs), to showcasing incredible client outcomes through our Client Success Stories poster presentations and a crash course in the litigation process, it was a day that tested problem-solving, teamwork client-centred practice.

Huge congratulations to Jeena Eari, selected as our poster competition winner 👏
And a big thank you to everyone involved, especially our brilliant “clients” for their Oscar-worthy performances 😉

After brain injury, cancelling plans is rarely about motivation or interest.

Recovery can be inconsistent, fatigue can be unpredictable, and pushing through can make symptoms worse. Choosing to rest or change plans is often part of managing recovery.
