🌟Meet Jodie, our HR and Recruitment Assistant 🌟

Jodie is the HR & Recruitment assistant here at BIS Services, helping with a variety of operational and administrative tasks whilst also supporting the recruitment team with the hiring process. She graduated in Social Policy and Social Change from the University of Kent.

šŸ“–Jodie’s primary duties include assisting with the staff onboarding and offboarding process, managing Employee relations, ensuring compliance with labour laws and company policies, encouraging training and development among all staff members and playing a supportive role with any other HR related duties.

With two years experience in Human resources, Jodie was drawn to further her career at the BIS Services due to her admiration of everything they do to support individuals living with brain injuries and cognitive impairments.

🧠After being diagnosed with a neurological disorder herself in her late teenage years, Jodie has a new found appreciation for cognitive rehabilitation and the importance of this for people like herself, as well as an admiration for the commitment that The BIS has to increasing standards of neuro rehabilitation support. Jodie feels extremely lucky to work with so many people who share this ambition and commitment, and to be able to play a part in assisting the company achieve this shared goal.

🐷A fun fact about Jodie is that she knows how to speak and understand Piggy Latin – a fun made up language that can be used to speak in code!

Anger after a brain injury isn’t a personality problem — it’s a neurological one.šŸ’„

During Anger Awareness Week, we’re highlighting why emotional regulation can become more difficult after brain injury, what triggers anger, and how compassionate, structured support can make a real difference.

šŸ‘‰šŸ½Fatigue, noise, communication challenges, routine changes and overwhelm can all make emotions feel bigger and harder to control. With the right strategies — from grounding techniques to fatigue management and structured routines — people can regain confidence and feel more in control.

šŸ¤At BIS Services, we work with clients every day to understand their triggers, reduce cognitive load, and build personalised tools that support emotional regulation and independence.

If you found this helpful, share it to raise awareness and reduce stigma around behaviour changes after brain injury.

ā•ļøWorld AIDS Dayā•ļø

Unfortunately, HIV AIDS stigma, stemming from fear, misinformation, and moral judgments about how the virus was acquired, still exists today.

Stigma doesn’t just shape how we see a condition - it shapes how people access care, advocate for themselves, maintain healthy relationships, employment and more.

For many living with HIV AIDS, stigma remains one of the biggest barriers to support. For many living with brain injury, the invisibility of symptoms creates another.

Education is one of the most powerful oppositions to stigma. It is possible to lead full and healthy lives with HIV AIDS. The more we can educate each other about this the more progress we can make together.

On World AIDS Day, we reflect on the importance of empathy, understanding, and creating services where people feel safe to be fully seen and given support without judgement.

Your brain makes up only 2% of your body mass…But uses 20% of your energy, even while resting. šŸ§ āš”ļø

If you lived with a brain injury, imagine how much more it demands. That’s why fatigue after a brain injury isn’t ā€œjust tirednessā€ — it’s the body doing serious work.

Let’s talk about it. ↓

Community-based rehabilitation has become the gold standard for Brain Injury Recovery.

At BIS, we believe in supporting individuals in their own environments — their homes, routines, workplaces, relationships and communities — where we can target the skills that truly shape everyday independence.

Community rehab allows for:
✨ Real-world practice of executive functions, fatigue management, behaviour regulation and communication
✨ Meaningful routines built around the person, not the service
✨ Smoother transitions back into daily life, education or employment
✨ Holistic MDT collaboration, all centred around the individual’s goals
✨ Greater generalisation of skills — because learning sticks when it’s relevant

At BIS Services, community rehabilitation has always been at the heart of what we do.

We see every day how personalised, context-driven support creates the strongest outcomes — and why it remains the leading approach in modern neurorehabilitation.

šŸ’¬ What do you believe makes community rehab so impactful? Let us know in the comments.

🌟Meet Tom, our Client Liaison Officer🌟

šŸŽ“Tom graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of Central Lancashire in 2016 and has since built a strong background across rehabilitation centres, supported living services, and community outreach. Over the years, she has supported individuals with brain injuries, mental health conditions, physical disabilities, and complex learning disabilities. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, he also worked as a mobile sports massage therapist for events and home-based clients.

šŸ“–He joined BIS Services in March 2022 as a Cognitive Rehabilitation Assistant, later expanding his role in September 2023 to become Client Liaison Officer. In this role, Tom carries out 6-week, 6-month, and annual check-ins with clients, ensuring quality of support for clients, and offering additional support to those experiencing any difficulties with their rehabilitation, personal circumstances, or team dynamics.

šŸ¤Tom acts as a compassionate point of contact, ensuring concerns are communicated to the appropriate office staff and helping to identify effective solutions centred on the client’s wellbeing.

šŸ‘Outside of work, he enjoys staying active, attending music events, cooking, and volunteering at a sheep sanctuary, where she helps care for rescued and neglected animals.

Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women - a reminder that the issue is not distant, rare, or abstract. It is happening every day in the UK, and the impact is often invisible.

Violence against women is not only a human rights crisis — it is a brain injury epidemic.

Many survivors experience repeated blows to the head, strangulation, and prolonged psychological trauma. Yet these injuries often go unrecognised, unsupported, and untreated.

If we are serious about ending violence, we must also be serious about understanding its neurological consequences, and ensuring survivors receive the care, safety, and dignity they deserve.

Today, and every day, we stand with survivors.
We stand with frontline professionals.
We stand for awareness, protection, and change.

🧔 No violence. No silence.

ā€œRecovery isn’t about going back — it’s about moving forward with strength.ā€ šŸ’Ŗ

For Disability History Month, we’re celebrating the resilience within our community with a success story from our Independent Living Training programme.

Meet Glen (name changed for privacy), a determined 29-year-old whose life changed after a traumatic brain injury sustained in a road traffic accident. Despite a long gap in support, he held onto one goal: to live more independently.

When Glen joined our ILT programme, he worked closely with our team, his family, and his MDT to rebuild key skills for safe, confident living.

Over the months, he achieved major milestones:

• Significant improvement in extended activities of daily living
• A reduction in impulsivity and stronger financial safety skills
• Improved sleep and fatigue management
• Successful use of a seizure monitor to increase safety
• Greater independence with problem solving and daily structure

These wins weren’t overnight. They came from consistency, structure, the right environment - and Glen’s incredible determination.

We’re endlessly proud of his progress.

We had an incredible day at on Thursday!🧠

Thank you to and all sponsors and speakers for putting on such a special event.

In particular, it was wonderful to see the depth of coverage of discussions across many challenging topics - all of which are integral to the support we provide in , and driving forward excellence.

Our BIS representatives included not only management but some of our excellent CRA's - providing a day of deeper learning and integration for all.

Roll on next year!

Today, we pause to honour every trans life lost to violence, discrimination and the silent struggles of mental health.

Trans Day of Remembrance is not just a moment of reflection, it's a call to action.

In the brain injury and rehabilitation community, we’re acutely aware of how stigma, trauma and exclusion can impact a person’s mental health, safety, and access to care.

For many trans people, these challenges remain life-threatening.

At BIS Services, we believe that affirming, inclusive, trauma-informed rehabilitation saves lives.

No one should ever have to fear seeking support.

No one should ever lose their life because kindness, safety, and dignity were withheld.

Today we remember.

Tomorrow we continue fighting for a world where every trans person can live safely, openly, and with the support they deserve.

šŸ¤ We honour them. We hold space. We recommit to doing better.
