On 8 January, Channel 4 aired Live Well with The Drug-Free Doctor, presented by Dr Rangan Chatterjee.
The programme explored whether lifestyle-led approaches can support recovery from long-term conditions — including chronic pain.
One of the key therapies featured was Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), a neuroscience-based approach that helps retrain the brain and nervous system when pain is no longer linked to tissue damage.
PRT is an approach I’m trained in and use in my work with clients living with persistent pain, tension and fear around their symptoms — including migraines, jaw and facial pain, pelvic or bladder pain, back, neck or joint pain, IBS, fibromyalgia and CFS/ME.
This isn’t about “pushing through” pain or pretending it isn’t real.
It’s about understanding pain as a protective response, and gently teaching the brain that the body is safe again.
If you watched the programme and felt curious — or if you’ve been living with pain that hasn’t responded to scans, treatments or medication — this work may offer a different, hopeful path.
