Today, 10th October, is World Mental Health Day. In the UK, during 2024 mental health surveys show that 1 in 7 adults say their mental health is very poor, with 23.5% of those aged 16-24 expressing the same issues.

The science is clear, what we put into our bodies affects our microbiome. These are the thousands of microbes, like bacteria, in our gut that each have a job to do in clearing up our system and making sure all the nutrients we ingest go to the right place so we are healthy. If we don't provide the right food in the right way we destroy the process. Our guts become sluggish, we miss vital nutrients which then affects our sleep and our mood, our general wellbeing and can lead to serious health conditions.

There is a very clear connection between our guts and our brain. Some simple adjustments to what we eat and drink and our general lifestyle can have far-reaching affects.

Try the following important things you can do:

- Cut down on all forms of refined carbohydrates such as cakes, bread, other baked/processed items, fizzy drinks, alcohol.

- Eat a rainbow - a large and varied mix of vegetables

- Eat plenty of protein in all it’s forms, eggs, meat, fish, beans, pulses, tofu etc.

- Don't snack between meals - if you do, have protein.

- Eat whole fruit and sweet treats as dessert only.

- Move more

to name just a few.

If you want to know more about improving your general health and wellbeing and making some small changes that will make a big difference, contact me. I will help you increase knowledge about how your body and brain works, guide you to take more care of yourself. We'll use Hypnotherapy and Mindfulness to support and reinforce new learning and instigate change.

If you are struggling with diminishing mental health, poor sleep, need support with weight loss, poor eating habits, stress and anxiety etc, call/WhatsApp me for an informal chat to find out more.

I'll Start Again on Monday ........

For many of us, this time of year is all about preparing for the warmer weather and that forthcoming holiday when we wear lighter, more revealing clothes. But it's usually also thwarted by feeling uncomfortable about our bodies, that awful sinking feeling when we look in the mirror and thinking "Right, I need to do something and lose a few pounds".

We decide on a "diet", do the healthy shop and feel really motivated for a short while. Until one day you have an event to attend, feel a bit low, or something goes wrong and stress creeps in. We subconsciously say "What the heck" and ditch the "diet" for a day and then worst of all we say "I've ruined it all now, I might as well carry on and start again on Monday". Sound familiar?

This cycle of self-sabotage is so familiar with any changes we try to make. We then end up feeling cross and self-defeating about our dieting efforts, feel like it's an impossible task, we can never change, so why bother and soothe our emotions with more unhealthy food/drink choices. A never-ending cycle.

Imagine not being on a "diet" but slowly learning how to make healthy choices each time, coping with the less better choices so we don't sabotage our healthy plans - learning what drives that behaviour so we spot it when it happens again and finding new ways to soothe ourselves when it does go wrong. Then going straight back to the better options with more insight, feeling better about ourselves.

Hypnotherapy can help re-train your subconscious mind and instigate change for your healthy desires to lose weight in a steady way that promotes change for life.

I'd love to be able to support you on your weight loss journey. Contact me to learn more about Hypnotherapy for weight loss for a free informal and non-obligatory discovery call where I can tell you more about how we can work together.

Here's to a new pathway to change and no more new starts on Mondays.

Warm wishes.

Christine

15/05/2023

I don't know about you but I think May can be a strange month. We get chilly, damp April out of the way and then desperately wait for the warmer weather so we can get into Summer mode after the long, cold, dark days. Then we are disappointed when May doesn't give us that heat we've been dreaming of. But remember what our grannies said "don't cast a clout 'til May is out". So we shouldn't be surprised ................. but each year we don our jackets and have a little moan about the chilly breeze.

Moaning can be a real habit for some and it's particularly prevalent with all the difficulties in society at the moment. There is scientific evidence that proves chronic complaining induces negativity. It rewires the brain and activates the stress hormone Cortisol. Long-term periods of Cortisol coursing through your body is extremely damaging and at it's worst can lead to long-term health issues.

The weather is kind enough for us to get out about and do some walking. May is National Walking Month so try getting outside, moving about a bit more, maybe count your steps or just take some mindful moments looking at all the new growth activity around us. It helps reduce stress by lowering our Cortisol and other stress hormone levels and that helps reset our nervous system, telling our mind that everything is okay. Great for reducing anxiety. It also helps you escape the moaners!

This May has been particularly different and strange with all the Royal celebrations, extra Bank Holiday and thoughts about gathering with others. It can be lonely for some at these times when perhaps you are not lucky to have others around you, not be included in celebrations or maybe even find those occasions stressful. Spare a thought for others and how this period might be affecting them. Check-in with them and share some positive mindset.

Today (15th May) marks the first day of Mental Health Awareness Week. The theme is Anxiety and this is something that can affect all of us at some time or another. Some short-term anxiety can be helpful and spur us into planning and meeting deadlines, ticking off tasks etc. However, if you are worrying consistently about an upcoming event, or dwelling on a past event and wonder what people are thinking about you, find yourself halted from day-to-day things by worry, then it's time to take some action and make some changes.

So maybe take a moment each day this week to just check-in with yourself. How are you feeling today? What is going on for you? Why do you feel like that, where does any worry stem from? Is it a common reaction? Ask yourself if you can do anything about it, what small steps will make a difference and help you feel you have some control. Remember, some 80-90% of what we worry about does not happen and about 4% of what remains is never as bad as we imagine.

If you feel you need some support to make changes, Hypnotherapy provides a safe and relaxing environment to explore your thoughts and feelings around anxiety and worry. Contact me for a chat - 07542 305150 or email to further details - chisbaileymindbody@gmail.com.

Warm wishes. Christine

TIME TO TALK

Today is Time to Talk Day, An initiative set up by Mind to encourage everybody to take time out of their day early in February each year to listen and talk to others about mental health. Not only does it raise awareness about the normality of mental health but it helps to establish good practice for people everywhere to make connections with others and be honest about how they are feeling right now.

Having a connection with others is one of our basic needs so try and keep this important aspect of our lives going strong. Smile and talk to others you see out in public, encourage friends and family to open up if they look sad or have worries. "A problem shared is a problem halved".

I believe that the sharing of information is vital during my hypnotherapy sessions and I devote at least half of the session for clients to talk about their issue, their progress since the last session, their goals and aspirations. Sometimes just sharing that information is enough to kick-start change. The actual hypnotherapy element then reinforces everything.

If you have an issue that is affecting your day-to-day life then consider hypnotherapy. Contact me below or email chrisbaileymindbody@gmail.com. I'd be very happy to explain everything to help you make a decision.

Monday 16th January is known as Blue Monday – deemed the most depressing day of the year based on things like the weather, post-Christmas lapse (ie. bills now coming in) the darkness and our motivation. It’s become very much a PR tag to hang on reasons for buying things like holidays etc.

However, there is something to be said for acknowledging if we feel “blue” and finding a way to deal with it so that it doesn’t become an extended period of feeling low or slipping into depression.

Perhaps we should instead assign this third Monday in January each year to identifying positive things to do for ourselves – maybe just for that day/week – which might even become lifelong habits of self-care.

Think about what you need right now – is it something to look forward to, some time to yourself after the busy Christmas period when you’ve been thinking of others, a new hobby, new friends, improving a relationship, stopping a bad habit, improving a difficulty in your life that affects you daily, eg. Anxiety.

So maybe you need to plan a holiday or an event, a day out with friends or even by yourself, take a long walk, go for a coffee in a favourite cafe, window-shopping or spending your Christmas vouchers, start a longed-for hobby, join a club, spend time with somebody you are missing - if it’s just a telephone/video call, take action to stop smoking/move more/lose a few pounds/release fears or anxiety.

Hypnotherapy can help with many of these and could be the first step to making a positive change in your life.

For January I am offering £10 OFF your first session with me to help you address any difficulties.

All of these unwanted habits lie within your subconscious mind and were first developed by your brain as a way to help you feel safe or overcome a difficult feeling but are probably no longer required and now cause issues in day-to-day life. So it goes without saying that your subconscious mind can help to create new, more positive ways of being. Hypnotherapy relaxes you enough for this work to take place.

CONTROL AROUND FOOD – WEEK 4

Welcome to Week 4 of four sessions about Control Around Food.

This week we review what we have learnt so far, discuss how we can learn from days when the plan doesn’t go as hoped and talk about how in order to be successful we have to stop the unkind thoughts in our head and learn some love for ourselves.

Look at the video in the link below (14 minutes long).

Don’t listen to this one whilst driving or operating machinery as it will induce a state of relaxation – although you are in complete control and not asleep.

I hope you are now really starting to use all of these new skills to help you make more healthy choices and create a new way of eating that gives you the control around food.

I’m delighted to make a special offer available to you if you would like to delve a little deeper and gain a more personalised experience of what has been covered so far – it really will make all the difference to your outcomes.

A 6-week programme that will focus on your specific goals of losing weight, gaining weight or just finding a healthier way to be around food that lasts. You can take up the sessions in a format that suits you over the next 6 months for a cost of £300 rather than £380. You can spread the cost if that helps.

Click on the link below and let me know you are interested (no obligation or pressure at all if you just want further information before committing). I will get back to you directly.

I’d welcome any feedback on these 4 sessions and would love to hear about any changes you have experienced. Feel free to email or WhatsApp me with your thoughts – details below or if you want to know more about individual/personalised Hypnotherapy for Weight Loss/Management sessions.

Thank you for joining me on this journey and good luck.
Take care.

CONTROL AROUND FOOD – WEEK 2

Welcome to Week 2 of 4 sessions about Control Around Food.

I’m focusing this week on Mindful Eating which allows you to slow down and take time to listen to the body and mind messages and form new eating habits. I also look at how the brain affects our food choices.

Look at the video in the link below (11 minutes long).

https://us02web.zoom.us/rec/share/gmFrB6QGTNgCKn-psE54BzWkuN02YmK9tgX2HP4_r5PmO0evHqlSYubC3R6bdhvL._H6coJWKz49icJ3L?startTime=1657133597000

Below is also a link to a Hypnotherapy recording so you can start to see yourself as a Mindful Eater with control around food.

Don’t listen to this one whilst driving or operating machinery as it will induce a state of relaxation – although you are in complete control and not asleep.

I hope you are now really starting to listen to the messages your mind and body are trying to share with you.

Remember to share with friends and family and I’d love to hear any comments. Feel free to email or WhatsApp me with your thoughts – details below or if you want to know more about individual/personalised Hypnotherapy for Weight Loss/Management sessions.

CONTROL AROUND FOOD – WEEK 1

Welcome to Week 1 of my 4 sessions about Control Around Food.

I’m focusing this week on listening to the messages that our body and mind give us and how to use those messages to help you understand your decisions around food more thoroughly.

Look at the video in the link below (17 minutes long).

https://us02web.zoom.us/rec/share/pC1rXVMOBTIxe58ysZ_HeyIk8saqk75VunmyyIoQ2yQInummPoNR3Zr9kxCOES7G.T8X5ppWoJ5ki6R6B

We look at Mindfulness and practice a brief mindful moment and there are tasks to try this further during the coming week to help you consider and understand your choices and habits around food.

Below are two mindful practice recordings to help you understand more fully what Mindfulness is.

https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/1mbKR

https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/xrzUm

Try listening to them regularly in the next week so you can develop your Mindfulness skills over time.

Below is also a link to a Hypnotherapy recording so you can experience a gentle and safe hypnotic moment that will help with your motivation for the future. Don’t listen to this one whilst driving or operating machinery as it will induce a deep state of relaxation – you are in complete control and not asleep though.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2022 – 9-15th May

Monday (9th May) marked the start of Mental Health Awareness Week. We are all so much more aware of Mental Health and it's affects on our wellbeing now. There is a theme each year and this year it's Loneliness.

Being connected and part of a community - no matter how small - is one of our basic needs. If that need is not met it affects us in all sorts of ways and at it's worst can lead to depression. Loneliness can take many forms. Maybe you are just not connected to enough people, spend much time alone and crave more company and interaction.

It's often assumed that elderly people are our lonely community members but statistics show that many young people feel lonely. Some people can be lonely in a crowd though - if they feel different, excluded, feel misunderstood or just don't feel they fit.

If this sounds familiar take a good look at what you do or don't do. Are you stuck at home working online? A single mum or dad and too busy with a young family? Are you missing meeting people due to health issues? Are you unable to get out and about due to anxiety or fear of something? So many issues affect us and restrict how we can interact with others.

Loneliness can lead to boredom and low self-esteem which can in turn lead us to unhealthy choices like food , alcohol and other unhealthy addictions or obsessions.

Hypnotherapy can help you explore all of these questions and issues and start to feel more positive about expanding your world, building confidence, dealing with fears and phobias and problems.

Contact me below. I'd be very happy to chat through how Hypnotherapy can help you specifically. Or email me on chrisbaileymindbody@gmail.com.
