My name is Lorraine Prescott and I have been a qualified therapist since 2002. I have a passion for holistic therapies and believe they are an ideal way to counteract the day-to-day stresses so many of us endure, together with assisting in relaxation and helping your body find a state of equilibrium. A lot of people say their water intake reduces during the winter months. Are you one of these people? 🤔

Our bodies are approximately 60% water (give or take variations between men and women). With over half of our body percentage is water, doesn’t it make sense to make sure we keep those levels topped up? 🙏

The benefits of being hydrated are many; a few of which are:
💚 it helps lubricate the joints;
💚 it delivers oxygen throughout the body;
💚 it can help re weight loss and controlling cravings;
💚 it boosts skin health and beauty;
💚 the digestive system depends on it (think of constipation!);
💚 it helps maintain blood pressure; and
💚 it can help our brain to function well.

So, just think of what happens to our body when we don’t maintain our water levels: it affects our brain, kidneys and digestive system; we can be more prone to UTIs; it can affect our mood, our strength and our stamina; the skin and muscle tone and our blood pressure (to name just a few) 😔

Think of your body as a car and oil in the engine is the equivalent to water in the body. If we want to drive our car, we need to make sure oil levels are sufficient. Failing to do so will cause the engine to seize. If the car engine is our body – this is what lack of water (oil) will do to our body (our engine).

Pain can present in many different ways. Often, it’s physical pain we’re most aware of, however we can go through times of emotional and mental pain, and even spiritual pain if we’re feeling out of alignment in our life 😥

Pain is our body’s way of telling us something isn’t right – and that we need to create a positive change in order to gain relief and restore wellness.

Do you listen to your body when pain presents, or do you push on through and ignore those niggles or feelings that something is out of balance?

If we ignore pain, we’re at risk of the issue becoming chronic or causing other problems as the body tries to compensate. The human body is amazing, however it can only adjust and compensate so far. We need to truly listen to the signs our body is presenting in order that we can support our health and wellbeing 💜

Taking steps to restore health and wellness needn’t be daunting. Awareness is the first step, so that’s one step taken already! Think about how you want to be feeling and then reverse engineer the steps you’d need to take in order to achieve that feeling.

There’s no hard and fast rule for freeing yourself from pain – we’re all different and our journeys will be individual too ✨

This week is Stress Awareness Week … and, in a world which often seems crazy on so many levels, it’s easy for our nerves to feel frayed and stress levels to rise 😥

In addition to events happening around us, our lives are often non-stop and, as a result, stress creeps in, which can affect our mental, emotional, and physical health.

Embrace holistic wellness by incorporating these simple practices into your routine:

🌸 Mindful Breathing: Take a few minutes to focus on your breath. Inhale deeply through your nose, hold for a moment, and exhale slowly. This can help centre your mind and reduce anxiety.

🧘‍♀️ Movement: Engage in gentle movement - whether it’s qigong, yoga, a walk in nature, or dancing to your favourite song. Movement releases endorphins and boosts your mood!

🍵 Nourishing Foods: Fuel your body with whole, nutrient-rich foods. Try herbal teas like chamomile or lavender to promote relaxation.

💤 Rest and Restore: Prioritise quality sleep. Create a calming bedtime routine to help your body unwind and recharge.

💖 Connect: Reach out to loved ones or friends. Sharing your thoughts and feelings can be incredibly healing.

October is ADHD awareness month and, at The Healing Tree, I have many clients who have been diagnosed with ADHD, or who recognise themselves to be so and have yet to have an official diagnosis.

ADHD can be overwhelming and, when it feels difficult to relax, it creates a cycle of never-ending restlessness … which is exhausting 😥

My focus is always on what a client wants to gain from their session (eg. relaxation, re-setting the nervous system, pain relief, etc). However, one of my favourite forms of holistic therapy when a client feels restless, unsettled etc is Reflexology. And, for ADHD, I would use Functional Reflex Therapy (FRT) 👣

This form of reflexology is wonderful for calming the nervous system. Developed to assist children with special educational needs, it has been shown to also support those with high levels of stress and anxiety, dementia, ADHD, motor tics.

Calming and rhythmic, I bring in FRT if I feel it is needed within a Reflexology session. And it is the calming nature of FRT, as well as Reflexology and other holistic therapies, which can support those who find it difficult to relax (whether or not they have ADHD) 💜

Being able to relax and re-set the nervous system is so important – especially when life can feel 24/7. If we don’t work on being able to relax, we’re at serious risk of burn-out.

💜 Menopause Awareness Month 💜

Thankfully, there’s more awareness now than there was. However, it can still feel a bit of a minefield as to symptoms, advice, support etc.

The menopause is something which will happen to all women as they journey through life. For some, it arrives as a result of surgery, for others it is a breeze and then there are those who feel like their world is falling apart and they know they don’t feel ‘right’ but aren’t aware it could be symptoms of the peri-menopause/menopause.

And the age when it arrives is another grey area. I grew up thinking it happened well into your 50s and then I became peri-menopausal in my mid-40s. It’s this grey area when we can get told by our doctor that it’s too early to be the menopause and our symptoms are probably related to something else! 😔

And these symptoms are vast: hot flushes, night sweats, insomnia, weight gain, loss of muscle tone, joint pain, brain fog, mood swings, anxiety, heightened emotions, etc.

We may or may not get the support we need from our GP and we may be advised to take HRT, however it may not be the course of action we want to take. Some may be unable to take HRT for medical reasons and others want to explore a more holistic approach.

On my journey into this stage of my life and being a Wellbeing Practitioner, the holistic approach is obviously one I’m most keen to take and I have found Qigong, Foot and Facial Reflexology, Lymphatic Massage and supplements support me well ✨

As with all things, for them to work, we need to get into the habit of regular practice/sessions until our body responds – and when it does, you just know you feel loads better than you did 💗

Listening, caring and striving to support my clients on their wellbeing journey – that is what I love about my job and why I’ve built The Healing Tree to be this kind of holistic practice 💚

Taking the time to know what’s going on for my clients and ensuring they are comfortable and feel supported throughout. I always stress to my clients that it is their session – if they don’t like something, we adapt the treatment.

Each client’s journey is unique and supporting them on their wellbeing journey enables them to create that positive change (however big or small) in a naturally holistic way - and I never stop being amazed at the results clients receive from their sessions 💗

You’ve probably seen a thousand posts (ours included!) with calls to action such as:

🔹 “Book now”
🔹 “Sign up today”
🔹 “Don’t miss out”

These are Calls to Action - clear invitations used by businesses to inspire you to take the next step. They work because they cut through the noise and say: Do something now!

However, my question to you is - when was the last time you gave yourself a call to action?

✨ To check in with how your body really feels?
✨ To make space for your mental wellbeing?
✨ To stop ignoring that little ache, that constant fatigue, that lingering stress?
