Its so easy to get carried away when we see those first signs of spring. Warmer weather, more sunshine, the grass is starting to grow but so are the weeds, and everything needs jet washing! However, a sudden increase in activity after winter can sometimes lead to back pain, knee strain, and tendon irritation.

Scar Work Therapy at Phoenix Place For Health

ScarWork™ is the brainchild of Sharon Wheeler of Seattle, USA. Over many years Sharon developed an approach to working with scars that has only been available to be taught to UK therapists since 2014.

Following operations or accidents, scars will almost inevitably lead to the possibility of developing adhesions, where restriction of the natural movement of connective tissues of the body can result.

ScarWork™ is a gentle therapy, employing the lightest of touch to enable the reconfiguration of damaged soft tissues, normally reducing the adhesions left by the scarring and improving the scar’s appearance. Adhesions connect structures that should not be connected; this can restrict mobility, organ function and thereby creating a feeling of tightness and/or pain.

This approach may seem counter-intuitive as the old approach used to be one of ‘breaking down’ scar tissue, but the light touch has proved to be both effective and painless.

Both Chrissy Drew and Stephanie Cawley offer Scar work Therapy.

You've been training hard all winter, and your race training and miles are stepping up a gear. Our practitioners have seen many runners over the years and soft tissue therapy, sports massage and osteopathic treatments have become an important part of their training plan. We can support with recovery, identify and treat minor injuries before they become a bigger concern, reassure you, and make sure you get to that finish line. We are also very good cheerleaders!!!

So whether it's a full or half marathon, a 5k or 10k, manual therapy can be a valuable tool in your training plan.
