Happy World Kindness Day!
At Rainbow Equine Hospital, kindness is at the heart of everything we do. From the way we handle your horses with patience and care, to the support we offer clients during difficult times, our goal is to make every interaction a positive one.
Today is a lovely reminder that kindness doesn’t have to be big to make a difference. A gentle word, a reassuring hand, or a moment of understanding can mean the world to both horses and humans.
Thank you for showing us kindness too, through your trust in our team to care for your horses, the patience you show during busy days, the smiles and thoughtful words you share with our team and the partnership we build together to keep your horses healthy and happy. Your support means so much and allows us to do what we love every day.

Today we welcomed over 60 equine vets to the Hospital for CPD. It was great to see so many vets come to the Hospital and enjoy a full day of talks covered by our team of orthopaedic, imaging and medicine specialists.
We must give special thanks to our sponsors, BOVA and Farm And Stable Supplies.

Parlington Flair was thought to have a low chance of survival when she arrived at the hospital. Flair had evidence of sepsis from an infection in her abdomen which was so severe that it had spread to her eyes (pictured), and she was also pregnant! For a while, we were concerned that neither mare nor foal was going to make it.

Flair was treated by one of our Internal Medicine Specialists, Lizzie Cullen with a complicated cocktail of different medications, and received intensive, round-the-clock nursing care from our dedicated team of interns, nurses and yard staff. We are absolutely delighted to say that after 10 days in hospital, she has been discharged home and is absolutely thriving! Congratulations to Diane and Wilf at Parlington Stud, and most of all to Flair, we wish you all the best with the birth of your foal 🥰

Honouring Heroes: Remembering the Courage of People and Horses This Remembrance Day
Today, on Remembrance Day, we honour the bravery and sacrifice of all those who have served and continue to serve. We remember not just the people, but also the horses whose strength, courage and loyalty carried them through unimaginable challenges.
From the battlefields to the stables, their stories remind us of the deep bond between humans and horses—a bond built on trust, care and courage.

Answer: False!
Many horses with ulcers still eat normally. Subtle signs like
irritability, poor performance, or changes in behaviour are often
the first clues.
Important: The only way to be certain your horse has gastric
ulcers is through a gastroscopy performed by a vet. Early
detection is key!
If you notice unusual behaviour or performance changes,
don’t wait, contact us today about a gastroscopy.

As temperatures drop, your horse’s muscles and joints may feel
stiffer. Here’s how to help them stay comfortable and active:
Warm up properly – gentle walking and stretching before more
intense work
Check footing – avoid icy or uneven surfaces that could cause slips
or injuries
Support joint health – ask your vet about targeted care for your
horse
Cool down & stretch – help muscles relax after exercise to
prevent stiffness
Regular, safe movement is key to keeping your horse happy and
mobile this season.
Contact us if you notice persistent stiffness or lameness –
early intervention makes all the difference.

Colder weather is here and with it may come changes in your
horse’s diet and drinking habits. These subtle shifts can increase
the risk of colic, one of the most common and serious equine
emergencies.
Ensure fresh water is always available
Maintain consistent feeding routines
Introduce any dietary changes gradually
Keep a close eye on your horse’s behaviour
Early detection is key! If your horse shows signs of colic: pawing,
rolling, lack of appetite, or unusual gut sound, contact your vet
immediately.

Lucky came into Rainbow Equine Hospital at the end of April, with a ruptured bladder, he was just 4 days old. Following surgery with Moses Brennan and follow-up care by Lizzie Cullen we were thrilled that he was able to be discharged with his mum.
His kind owners have sent us this lovely picture of him🥰 Lucky is now weaned and thriving.

We love to hear your success stories and it is so rewarding for our team to see happy horses back with their owners, so please keep sending them in to us.
