It’s perfect for anyone who can’t lie comfortably on a futon — and a huge help for me too, as I’m still recovering from a minor bike accident and can’t kneel at the moment.

A big thank you to the Shiatsu College, Manchester for letting me practise with their table, and to Nikki for lending me her spare one so I could continue treating clients with care.

Shiatsu involves the skilled application of pressure to specific points on the body, primarily using the therapist’s fingers, thumbs, palms, and elbows. The practitioner’s touch is firm yet gentle, and it follows the body’s meridians to encourage the free flow of Qi, our vital force.

If our Qi gets blocked, we experience pain either at physical, emotional or mental level, which can develop into illness.

Shiatsu is an excellent practice to unblock and disperse Qi and regain balance.

S P R I N G . S T A R T S
** next Wednesday 5th of February

The New Year in the Chinese calendar signals the start of spring. Days get longer, and we start moving away from the dormant winter. Things start to shaken up.

Next Wednesday Spring Begins and we are starting weekly Qigong classes The Yoga Rooms in Chorlton. These will be an opportunity for attendants to connect with the seasons and the cycles of life.

Qigong is not exercise. It’s a holistic health practice that helps us to harmonise with ourselves and our environment so we keep illness at bay and can heal ourselves. And it’s done though movement, breath work, self-massage, working with acupressure points, mudras and meditation.

There will be 2 classes :

> One for Over 50’s ( though not exclusively )
10-30am-11.30am

> Another for Women’s Health
4.30pm-5.20pm

Both starting on Wednesday 5th of February

In each we’ll learn practices to take home so we know how to use accordingly to our needs.

What's Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a Japanese body and mind therapy that treats receiver’s energetic blockages through acupressure, as these blockages, in Eastern medicine, are the root of pain and illnesses.

Shiatsu is like acupuncture but instead of using needles we use our thumbs, the palms of our hands, elbows, knees and even our feet. It includes stretches and joints’ rotations too, and receivers lie down on a futon wearing comfortable clothes, including socks, and relax while givers connect with receivers energetic field.
