If you go too ashy, it can look flat and dull
If you go too warm, it can look brassy

But when you balance the two properly, you get that soft, expensive, dimensional blonde that actually reflects light and moves

Most people think the haircut comes at the end…

but you can actually build the entire shape before you even pick up the scissors

By using graduated lengths — placing shorter lengths through the top and longer lengths underneath — you naturally create layers, movement and a much softer blend

This can be done using single drawn hair, allowing you to mimic a layered haircut without needing to heavily cut into the extensions

It’s perfect if you’re newer to cutting or feel nervous about adding layers — because the shape is already built into the installation

It also means less cutting = more longevity for the hair, and can even save your client money if they’re wanting a layered look throughout the back

This technique is especially important when working with clients who have shorter natural hair but want longer extensions — as it helps everything blend seamlessly and avoids that heavy, bulky finish

It’s not just about fitting hair… it’s about designing the final result

A lot of extensionists are never properly taught how to cut and blend extensions - they’re shown how to fit them, but not how to finish them

And that’s why you’ll often see hair that looks bulky, blunt or obvious

It’s not always about the hair - it’s about the technique behind it

The way it’s cut, shaped and blended makes ALL the difference to the final result
