It might be cold outside 🥶 but we are thinking about the future and the warmer weather to come. Here is a little video to showcase how to plant English Lavender seeds. It helps if you have a heat source to encourage germination . Heated mats/ propagator really help to get things happening. Give it a try! Lavender offers health benefits promoting sleep, alleviates stress and reduces anxiety. It is also lovely as a wellbeing tea. ☕️✨

We are grateful to who kindly donated insulation boards to help reduce the effects of the winter cold on our wonderful plant displays. It can be challenging to keep plants that are used to hot and dry conditions going in the damp cold Manchester months! This also helps to provide a warm space for our volunteers and visitors to enjoy.

We said bye bye this week to the tremendous team from . Blossom has hosted this lovely group at the horticultural centre in Wythenshawe Park while they recycled thousands of Christmas trees. This was hard work in often freezing conditions. See you again next year 🌲🌲🌲

A genuinely uplifting and productive event! It’s fantastic when gatherings move past jargon to focus on real, shared experiences and concrete progress within the community. Felt like something to celebrate 🥳

Christmas Cactus are easy-to-grow, long-living houseplant if you provide the right care.
Impressive flowers between late November and late January. Position in bright light but not full sun. Keep these tender tropical plants above 10°C (50°F). Christmas cacti grow naturally in warm, humid rainforests, in dappled shade. So in our homes they like indirect or filtered light. An east-facing windowsill is usually ideal. Unlike desert-dwelling cacti, they dislike full sun or very high temperatures.

Move them to a cooler location in autumn and again after flowering, to give them a rest period.

Let’s celebrate! It’s our birthday 🥳🎉🎂. This week Blossom Charity is 4 years old. We are so proud of what we’ve achieved in 4 short but busy years. None of this would be possible without our amazing volunteers who commit their time and passion to our activities in the horticultural centre in Wythenshawe Park. We are grateful to our funders who recognise the value in our work and the impact it has on the health and wellbeing of our participants.

It might look severe but this is a good time to cut back the chilli plants foliage as they are pretty dormant over the winter. This is going to put the plants into hibernation. This means that in Spring the plants will flourish again and be at a good stage for early fruiting. You will increase their chances of survival massively if you move the plants inside a greenhouse (if they are not in one already). This will help keep the roots warm and protect them from frost.
