Stepping away from the desk and into something hands-on
Volunteering isn’t just about giving back, it’s a chance to reset, recharge, and reconnect. For those of us in office-based roles, getting outdoors, working with our hands, and seeing tangible results brings a real sense of achievement that emails and meetings just can’t match.
Even better, those efforts go straight into supporting community projects and making a meaningful difference.

Callistemon pallida, often known as lemon bottlebrush, is a plant in the myrtle family, common in eastern Australia. It is an upright shrub with thin, spreading branches, silvery new growth and pale yellow, sometimes pinkish bottlebrush flowers. And for the record, it smells so fragrant 🌸 Call to the Wythenshawe Park Horticultural centre to see for yourself!

At Blossom, everything we do is powered by people: our incredible volunteers who give their time so generously, and our dedicated staff team who bring passion and care to every corner of what we create.
Today, we’re shining a light on John, our resident horticulturalist
With his creative flair and long-term vision, John plays a huge role in shaping the beautiful displays in and around the Horticultural Centre. If you’ve noticed a space looking brighter, greener, or newly inspired, chances are John helped set it in motion!
He’s also always happy to stop for a chat whether you’ve got a gardening question, need advice, or just want to share in his enthusiasm for all things Blossom.
Thank you to John, and to every member of our amazing team, for making Blossom such a special place.
