Norovirus is a stomach bug that causes diarrhoea and vomiting. It can be very unpleasant, but usually goes away in about 2 days.

You can usually treat yourself at home, but the most important thing is to rest and have lots of fluids.

Do you know the signs and symptoms of cancer in children and young people?

Charlotte Smith’s daughter, Betsy, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2023. For weeks, Betsy had been unwell with an ear infection, fatigue, spiking temperatures and fatigue. Doctors initially thought it was viral.

As time went on, Charlotte noticed new symptoms - persistent pain in Betsy’s stomach, ankle and arms, and heavy night sweats. After another urgent visit to the GP, Betsy was finally sent for blood tests - and Charlotte felt listened to.

It's important not to worry if your child has one of these symptoms, but if they develop multiple symptoms, which persist, or symptoms don’t go away after two weeks, and something doesn’t feel right – trust your instincts and see a doctor.

Early diagnosis can save lives.
