We’re pleased to share that our Deputy Director of Nursing – Specialist Hospitals Clinical Group role is now live.

This is a significant senior leadership opportunity to influence nursing and AHP practice across some of the most complex and specialist services within Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Working at Band 9, you’ll help shape strategic clinical leadership across both Children & Young People’s and Adult services, strengthening quality, safety and patient experience across a diverse specialist portfolio. You’ll play a key role in supporting the One MFT approach, working closely with medical, operational and corporate colleagues to drive improvement at scale.

As a visible and values‑led leader, you’ll champion inclusive, compassionate leadership, support the development of high‑performing teams, and act as a trusted deputy within the Clinical Group’s senior leadership structure, helping to set direction and deliver excellence for our patients and communities.

If you’re an experienced leader ready to take the next step and make a meaningful impact across Specialist Hospitals, we’d love to hear from you.

Today we’re shining a light on colleagues across MFT who are making positive changes to their health and wellbeing - including Adele, a Nursing Assistant, who has now been smoke‑free for two years.

Adele decided to begin her quit journey after seeing a stop‑smoking support stand on the main corridor during a shift. She had wanted to stop smoking for a long time but didn’t know where to start. The team provided practical guidance, the MFT stop‑smoking app, and 24/7 support from Nurses to help her understand cravings, manage the early challenges, and explore healthier alternatives.

Her motivation was to improve her health, save money, start running, and eventually renovate her kitchen. Since quitting, Adele’s breathing and fitness have improved, she no longer struggles with recurring chest infections, and she was able to save enough to complete her kitchen project!

Today we’re sharing the inspiring journey of Michelle, one of our Clinical Nurse Specialists in Cardiology at Manchester Royal Infirmary, who quit smoking after more than 20 years.

Michelle realised how much her daily life and routines revolved around ci******es and decided she’d had enough. After stopping on 14 May 2024, she reached out for support and found strength through our incredible CURE Team. With guidance, motivation, the Smoke Free app and ni****ne replacement therapy, she managed the early challenges and soon noticed cravings fading.

Quitting has transformed both her work and wellbeing. She no longer worries about smelling of smoke, feels more present with patients, and has seen her chest wheeze disappear. She’s now 1 year and 10 months smoke‑free, healthier, happier, and proud of how far she has come.

On No Smoking Day, Michelle wants others to know that with support, determination and the right tools, change is possible - and that quitting is one of the best decisions you can make.
