According to Chinese Medicine we are now in the 5th season- 'late summer' and autumn is around the corner.
Late summer is energetically connected to the Spleen and stomach It's time to pay special attention to the digestion as our energy and immunity changes with the seasons.

If the Spleen and Stomach is low on energy, you may experience nausea, stomach flu, IBS, weight gain, blood sugar disorders, or low energy.

As we are now transitioning to the colder, more ‘yin' part of the year. Balance cold foods with warm tea, or better still eat lightly warmed steamed or blanched foods instead of reaching for raw salads. Ginger tea is particularly good for supporting the digestion.

Enjoy the last of summers goodness by eating seasonal foods such as squash carrots, aubergine, tomato, greens, peas, beetroot, peas, beans apple, lemon and grapes.

🌺It’s summertime and everything is in full bloom, energy is joyful and abundant. In traditional Chinese medicine summertime is associated with the fire element🔥

The emotion associated with the fire element is Joy. Summer is a playful and creative time but it’s important to balance the fun with rest to avoid burnout.

The fire element is also associated with the energy of the heart ♥️
Feeling restless, anxious and having trouble sleeping could indicate an imbalance of the fire element, regular acupuncture, reflexology and massage can help to maintain equilibrium.

In Chinese Medicine springtime is associated with the wood element and the Liver energy. The Liver energy is about Flow of Qi, flow of Blood and flow of EMOTIONS.

New life in springtime bursts towards the sky just like the energy of the Liver.

When the flow of Liver Qi is stagnated it leads to sensitivity to mild triggers, and feelings associated with “stuckness.” It’s marked by tension, irritability, and grumpiness, or melancholy and depression.

Symptoms can include digestive issues, headaches, migraines, tendonitis dry, red eyes and other eye conditions. For women also PMS, breast tenderness, and menstrual pain.

Other factors can contribute to liver energy stagnation such as heightened stress and improper diet or exercise, the expected emotional consequence is (eventually) anger.

When either repressed or excessively vented, anger can be damaging.

When Liver energy is in balance it can give us the momentum we need to grow and change in the direction of our destiny.

Take care of your Liver qi with regular self care, exercise, journaling, spending time in nature and having regular acupuncture and stress releasing treatments such as massage and Reflexology.

More than a treat, regular massage is a necessity!
✨Studies have shown that the stress hormone Cortisol decreases and our happy, feel good hormones serotonin and dopamine increase following massage therapy.

✨Regular massage could help you to manage your stress levels and mitigate some of the physical and mental effects of it such as anxiety, inflammation and pain.

Making regular massage a part of your self-care routine makes sense!

Li Chun (the beginning of spring) sees snowdrops popping up, nature coming back to life and we are looking forward to springtime.

Winter was a deeply Yin time and after the cold and stillness we are charged with the Yang energy and purpose with which to emerge into spring- a season of growth, rejuvenation and fresh starts.

The Liver is Springs organ. The Liver qi loves to plan ahead and this is the time to set goals and visions for the year. Its the best time to start your New Year’s resolutions, start new habits and fuel your Yang energy and motivation for the year.

The liver qi loves movement and flow so in these early spring days awaken your body with gentle exercise. If you struggle with symptoms of stagnation (irritability, PMS, IBS, migraines) these can become more prominent during the change of seasons.

It is still cold and still important to keep warm and pay attention to your immune system. Eat plenty of warm nourishing foods and drink our Goji and red date tea (Coming soon!)
