Practical Magic 2 Is Coming — and Why It Matters to Witches
For many witches, Practical Magic was never just a movie.
It was a feeling. A recognition. A quiet permission to exist as we are.
Now, nearly three decades later, Practical Magic 2 is officially set to arrive in September 2026, bringing the Owens women back to the screen.
And whether you practice witchcraft, love witch stories, or simply understand the power of women standing together, this sequel matters.
What We Know So Far
Release: September 2026 (early to mid-September)
Returning cast: Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Dianne Wiest, and Stockard Channing
Status: Filming completed, now in post-production
This isn’t a reboot. It’s a continuation. And that distinction is important.
Practical Magic didn’t portray witches as villains or caricatures.
It showed them as:
Women with grief and desire
Sisters bound by love and conflict
Practitioners living quietly among others
Powerful without needing permission
That representation mattered then, and it matters now even more.
Witchcraft in that story wasn’t about spectacle. It was about choice, lineage, responsibility, and survival. Those themes haven’t aged. They’ve deepened.
Witchcraft as Inheritance
One of the most powerful threads in
Practical Magic is the idea that witchcraft is passed down not just as spells, but as:
Family stories
Warnings
Strength learned through loss
Knowledge earned through living
For many witches, that mirrors real life. We don’t wake up powerful. We become powerful through experience.
A sequel allows that story to continue. Not as nostalgia, but as evolution.
Why 2026 Feels Timely
We’re living in a time when:
Women’s autonomy is openly challenged
Spiritual independence is politicized
Community is both fragile and essential
A story about women choosing each other, protecting their own, and living outside expectation is not escapism. It’s reminder.
What I Hope This Film Holds
Not perfection. Not spectacle.
I hope it holds:
Aging witches still standing in their power
Majick that feels lived-in, not flashy
Consequences, wisdom, and choice
The truth that love and power can coexist
And most of all, I hope it reminds us that witchcraft is not rebellion for attention — it’s survival with intention.
Until Then
September 2026 gives us time.
Time to revisit the original.
Time to tell our own stories.
Time to stand rooted in who we are, quietly and unapologetically.
Some majick doesn’t fade.
It waits.
