🖌️🎨🖍️JANUARY’S IN-HOUSE COMPETITION ENTRY 🖌️🎨🖍️

📣KENYON LODGE WINNERS📣

Every month we take part in our in-house competition where we design something which is different each month… January’s in-house competition theme was Scottish/ Burns night theme 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🐮
Our wellbeing team and residents love taking part of this which is a friendly competition against our sister home Farnworth Care Home and two other homes in the northwest which are Heron Hill Care Home and Kendal Care Home 💕 as most of you may have guessed we love dressing up here at Kenyon lodge so it’s always better when residents enjoy joining in to!!
We have fully embraced this competition from writing poems and making a wonderful landscape to dressing up as a Scottish man in his manor 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 it has been all systems go with the Scottish theme!!
Our lovely ladies prepping the veg for everyone to enjoy scotch broth 🍽️! We all worked hard making a fabulous landscape from wool! Thistles from wooden skewers and polystyrene eggs.. and also buttons! Who would have thought you could make a highland cow out of a Christmas reindeer, wire hanger and wool👏🏻👏🏻 our little Loch ness monster model was made out of salt dough and painted by Gwen and Joan,
Some of our residents enjoyed writing some poems for us with inspiration from Robbie Burns and our lovely Jean even draw a picture with her poem ✍🏻 This time Norman enjoyed dressing up as a true Scotsman in his highland manor with our Pat by his side 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 we also enjoyed making the Scottish dessert Cranachan which was fully enjoyed by all!
Our masterpiece is on full display as you walk into our reception area of the home, so if you call in visiting please stop and admire the brilliant work done fo this months competition 👏🏻❤️

FEBRUARY’S in-house competition theme is Chinese New Year 🧧 🇨🇳 so keep you eyes peeled 👀 for that around the home 👏🏻👏🏻

This week we have enjoyed doing 1-1 session where some of our residents enjoyed the quality time doing jigsaw puzzles and making Valentine’s Day cards for their friends and family members 🧩💕🌹
We have also done a lot of arts and crafting 🖌️🎨🖍️ from making Valentine’s Day decorations to carrying on our February in-house competition entry which is Chinese new year theme 🧧🇨🇳
Some of our lovely ladies enjoyed making personalised Valentine’s Day cards whilst having a lovely pamper from our students who are fully engaging and enjoying their placement here at Kenyon, which is lovely to see 💆💅 our Shirley off Wharton unit enjoyed having a cuddle and a arm massage off our wonderful Pat 🧴🤗
Mandy has treated some of our residents to a trip down to our salon where some of our ladies enjoyed a wash cut and blow & the gents enjoyed a trim and head massage 💈💇💇‍♀️
We enjoyed using our magnet board and doing a little bit of knitting to keep them fine motor skills going. 🧶
Our resident new and old embraced “new year new me” where they got moving their bodies doing light hearted armchair exercises 🪑💪 our weekly session of bingo didnt go a miss either ✍️
We have finished off the week with Rinae joining us again and enjoyed getting stuck in to some arts and crafts whilst some of our gents enjoyed a pamper having a hand soak and a massage off Mandy 🎨🖌️🤲
We must say it’s been a wonderful enjoyable week and we are so proud of all our residents for getting stuck in with the activities we provide for them, seeing them engage and happy makes our job so worthwhile 💕

What a lovely busy week we have had with our lovely residents! We started the week of by our students Poppy & Queen giving our residents facials and manicures, we also made some Valentine’s Day cards which our lovely Gwen presented one to our manager Shaun.
Some of our ladies enjoyed prepping the veg for their lunch which was scotch broth! And we must say it tasted AMAZING 👏🏻👏🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 our young students Autumn & Kiera enjoyed watching our ladies hard at work ❤️
We have played our weekly bingo session which was as always great fun and nothing but laughter all the way through, this time residents had to shout “ Och aye the Noo” to tie in with our in-house competition which is Scottish theme this month! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
We had a fantastic morning with a visit from Mary who got our residents moving to hits from the 50s and 60s getting them to shake their tambourines and pom-poms 🎤🎶
We also enjoyed making a lovely Scottish dessert Cranachan, which is classed as a rich man’s dessert made from Whiskey, fresh raspberries, honey, whipped cream and toasted oats 🤤😋 it was absolutely lovely and Shaun enjoyed sampling it too. After a busy week our residents today wanted an easier day so we enjoyed playing solitaire and who wants to be a millionaire on our tiny tablet with Gwen taking charge. This afternoon we enjoyed watching the Three stooges 🎬📽️ with a brew and a slice of cake 🍰

It’s been brought to our attention we missed a full week of sharing our busyness 🫣 so accept my apologies and see below the continued dedication of our wellbeing team and their teammates (our residents) accompanied by some lovely new students on placement from college 🤗

We started out the week with a continuation of our in-house competition which is between ourselves and our 3 sister homes, this month it is a Scottish theme 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 in memory of Robert Burns & burns night 25th, we asked our teammates (residents) to write a poem and I must say we are in awe of how committed they have been, now, I can’t give to much away but we want to start the year with a win after our streak of 6 consecutive wins was stolen from us 🤭 BUT very well deserved by Farnworth care home in November & Heron hill care home in December….the 🏆 is coming home guys 😂

We of course had “new year, new me”exercises 🚶‍♂️we did a gentle warm up using balloons followed by some good energetic party songs gets the blood pumping 😃

we took a stroll down memory lane and reminisced about what were our favourite toys, rag and bone man and objects of the era and of course everyone remembered the good old smell of Carbolic soap!! Afterwards we watched videos on you tube of old pubs, old Salford and Manchester, we talked about how much it had changed. Cross lane market was remembered fondly.

We had some meaningful 1:1 sessions

We made fat balls for our reident bird residents got stuck now let’s wait to see if we can get some lovely captures of our birds enjoying them. Don’t be alarmed our Gordon is the joker of the class, he didn’t really eat them 😂

we got together for a couple of quizes 200 questions in total, definately got our brains working well

We had the pleasure of listening to some beautiful music from Ewan, residents were captivated and some fell asleep (in a positive way) it was so soothing.

And we ended the week with a couple of residents meeting with Daisy from, lasted, the idea is to record digital memories, we are working on it and exploring ways to do it in a way our residents understand.

We also received a lovely surprise postcard invitation from our neighbour home Walkden Manor, we would love to have afternoon tea ☕️ with home baked scones

What a lovely busy week we have had here at Kenyon lodge! Our activities have been none stop from playing darts and adding more to our in-house competition which is Scottish/ burns night themed to a little glimps of our newly decorated and completed walkway on Wharton unit!
Our lovely Gordon and Norman off Peel unit helped Mandy bake a cake and decorate it for Charles 80th and enjoyed a few games of dominos where waiting for it to cool. We even did a spot of flower arrangeng are spotted around our home.
We have enjoyed our weekly session of bingo, wrote some wonderful poems and even reminisced about old Salford and Manchester by looking through some books Jorden brought in.
We have had some lovely 1-1 time with our new residents as we got to know them, we even celebrated Elvis’s birthday by listening to his best hits and watch a programme all about him, some of our ladies have enjoyed a manicure and a facial. We have enjoyed some pet therapy time and today we are glad to say our lovely Renie has come back and joined us❤️ Renie came to join our wellbeing team for two weeks last year and after making a lasting impression with our residents and all our staff she will now join us every Friday 👏🏻. Today we celebrated two lovely ladies birthdays with Lynn requesting a make over and even enjoyed a quick photoshoot 😂❤️
