We are moving: Hawthorn Medical Centre and Walk-in Centre – Future location update

Hawthorn Medical Centre is pleased to confirm the new site for the relocation of our GP practice and Walk-in Centre.

The move follows a notice being served by the landlord of the retail park, Lidl, who will be building a new store at Fallowfield Retail Park.

As we has already begun to outgrow the current premises, the NHS has decided that a relocation will be the best decision to secure the future of Hawthorn Medical Centre and Walk-in Centre, and we have been working closely with NHS Greater Manchester, NHS Property Services and Manchester City Council to find a suitable new home.

The new location is on a plot of unused land on Moseley Road belonging to the University of Manchester – opposite our current location.

This is great news for the practice and our community, and we would like to thank you all for your support and patience. Building of the new location is expected to begin this winter and be completed in autumn 2026.
Moseley Road has been chosen as the best site for the practice and walk in centre to relocate to because:

the new location is less than 100 metres from the current location
- transport links remain the same
- there will be new larger modern facilities and clinical rooms
- there will be at least five additional clinical and treatment rooms and a larger waiting room space
- on site car park
- a wider range of services will be delivered from this location
- more training space for the NHS workforce

The draft drawings show how the new location might look

Next steps

In the meantime, all NHS services at Hawthorn Medical Centre and Walk-in Centre will continue to operate as normal in our current building, and patients should attend their appointments as usual. We look forward to keeping you updated.

Again, we thank you for your support and patience and will provide updates closer to the time of relocating in Autumn 2026.

“This Van Can” mobile roadshow will travel across all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester for the next seven months. On board, specially trained staff will be available for free, friendly conversations about spotting the early signs of cancer.
Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance

Could you spot the signs?
The earlier cancer is found, the easier it is to treat. The NHS wants everyone to know the key symptoms to look out for, including:
A lump or swelling anywhere on the body
A cough or breathlessness lasting more than three weeks
Unexplained bleeding (in p*e, poo, or between periods)
Heartburn that lasts for three weeks or more
Unexplained tiredness, pain, loss of appetite, or weight loss

Dr Sarah Taylor, a Manchester GP, explains:
“Most of the time, these symptoms aren’t cancer – but it’s always worth getting them checked. If it is cancer, catching it early makes all the difference. We want people to know that their GP is here for them.”
