Gaddum Hi, we're Gaddum. We are a mental health and carers charity for Greater Manchester. Registered charity no.507162 Hi, I’m Gaddum.

I’m a charity offering advocacy, carer support, mental health, counselling and therapy services to Manchester. For nearly 200 years, I’ve been a voice for people struggling to have theirs heard, a shoulder to cry on for those shouldering a burden and a helping hand for anyone helping others to cope. I believe supporting individuals has a ripple effect on the whole community, ultimately building better futures all round. Everyone’s circumstances are unique, but whatever situation you find yourself in, I’m here to listen.

Last chance to see the Caregiving Exhibition at Pendleton Library & Humphrey Booth Resource Centre, which is on display until Easter 🐣

Photos with Fiona led a series of inspiring photography workshops for unpaid carers in Salford, creating space to have fun, learn new skills, and share lived experience.

Using creative prompts like “something happy, sad, calm, or confusing,” carers captured meaningful moments by taking photographs that captured their experiences. These photos, along with written submissions, now form the Caregiving Exhibition.

You can visit the exhibition at:

- Humphrey Booth Resource Centre, Swinton (a dementia-friendly community hub)
- Pendleton Library

We’d love to see the exhibition travel further - where should it go next? Drop your suggestions in the comments 👇

This project was funded by a National Lottery Project Grant from Ace Grams, with workshops supported by Empowered Conversations and Gaddum

We're inviting unwaged carers in Salford and Manchester to take part in our awareness campaign, That Counts as Caring.

We're particularly interested in hearing from carers whose voices are often underrepresented, including:

Male carers
LGBTQ+ carers
Carers from minority ethnic communities
Young carers

Launching in June 2026 during National Carers Week (8th - 14th June), the campaign aims to raise awareness of what being a carer really looks like, and to help people understand what support is available to them.

Many people who provide care don’t realise they’re entitled to support. By sharing your experience, you could help others recognise their own caring role and access support, including financial help, benefits advice, transport assistance, and local support groups and events.

🌟 Ways you can take part

You can get involved in whichever way feels most comfortable for you:

1) Appear in the campaign video
Share one sentence about what you do to support someone in your life. Filming will take place in Manchester (venue TBC) on Tuesday, 21st April.*

2) Take part in a longer filmed interview
We can visit you at home to talk in more depth about your experience of caring. We are looking for one carer in Manchester and one carer in Salford for this opportunity. Filming will take place on Wednesday 22nd or Thursday 23rd April, at a time to suit you.*

3) Share your story in your own words
Create a written piece or record an audio message about your experiences as a carer. The deadline to submit a written or audio piece is Friday 22nd May.

*Travel costs will be reimbursed in line with Gaddum's policy. Anyone taking part in filming will be paid £15 per hour.

🌟 Who we’re looking for

People who care for a:

- Partner
- Parent
- Friend
- Relative
- Disabled child(ren)

You don’t need to call yourself a “carer”. If you regularly support someone who couldn’t manage without you, we’d love to hear from you.

Your story could help someone else realise: That Counts as Caring

💙 Peer Support Q&A on Eating Disorders
📆 Monday 27th April
🕰️ 12.30pm - 1.30pm
📍 Online, free to attend

Bring your questions to our free online Q&A to ask anything you’d like to know about working with eating disorders in peer support.

The Q&A will be led by a peer group facilitator, Rachel, who brings lived experience of anorexia nervosa in adolescence and ongoing experiences of disordered eating.

Now aged 55, Rachel reflects on the many ways recovery can look over a lifetime - raising questions about whether recovery always means the complete absence of difficult thoughts, or whether it can also mean learning to live well, safely, and meaningfully alongside them.

Drawing on her own journey, and that of family and peers, Rachel offers an honest, compassionate perspective that holds space for both hope and reality, aiming to make this session open, reflective, and grounded.

Free to attend and open to all Greater Manchester peer workers (working across Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside & Glossop, Trafford, Wigan & Leigh).

We're excited to announce that Gaddum is part of a new VCSE collaborative that will support the provision of mental health crisis helpline support 📞

In partnership with Tameside, Oldham, Glossop & Stockport Mind, Rochdale and District Mind and MhIST Mental Health Independent Support Team, we are recruiting a team to provide the NHS "111 press 2" service.

With our combined experience of working with the people of Greater Manchester, we are excited to launch this collaborative partnership and support people in crisis in a professional, person-centred, and trauma-informed way.

Recruitment is now live for these roles. We will recruit and interview together as a partnership. Successful candidates can submit their preferences for which of the four organisations they would like to be placed in.
