One of the people we support at Olton Grange recently sat down with us to share just how far he’s come on his recovery journey, and it’s something truly worth celebrating.

In his own words, he went from “not doing so well” to building confidence, setting goals, and believing in his future. Now, he’s working towards getting his own car, finding a place to live, and taking those next steps towards independence.

This month, we’re continuing to celebrate the everyday moments of growth that shape who we are at Northern Healthcare, and today, we’re proud to shine a light on Jay Welsh, Deputy Service Manager at Merchants House.

Jay joined Northern Healthcare in 2021 with no prior experience in health and social care, transitioning from 13 years in hospitality management. What they did bring, though, were strong people skills, a passion for mental health, and a deep motivation to make a positive difference.

Starting as a Support Worker at Radcliffe Lodge, Jay quickly found their purpose and threw themselves into learning, leading, and supporting others. Their progression to Team Leader gave them the platform to champion development within the team, streamline systems, and strengthen service delivery.

After completing their NVQ Level 3 and gaining invaluable mentorship, Jay took the next step in their journey, becoming Deputy Service Manager at Merchants House. We’re incredibly proud to celebrate Jay’s journey and the impact they make every day 💙

Recently, Helena at Amy Johnson House celebrated the incredible achievement of being three years out of hospital! 👏

Helena marked the occasion with staff and a cake, reflecting on how far she’s come. She shared that this milestone is a real stepping stone towards her independence, and we couldn’t be prouder of her progress and determination. Well done Helena!

Our services came together recently to pay their respects through creativity and reflection this Remembrance Day.

At Kirk House, people we support helped create a beautiful window mural, each painting their own poppy and adding their initials beside it. Many felt proud to contribute to something meaningful in remembrance of those who defended our way of life.

Over at Radcliffe Lodge, a person we support and a staff member crafted a lovely poppy wreath, enjoying special one-to-one time while reflecting on Remembrance Sunday and the different ways people honour the service and sacrifice of others.

We’re counting down the days until the LaingBuisson Awards next Thursday!

This December marks 3 years since Tom joined Radcliffe Lodge, and he continues to shine! ✨

When his Cancer Research shop in Leeds closed, Tom was thrilled to be offered a new role at the Kirkstall branch. Volunteering keeps him busy, connected, and proud to give back.

Tom shared, “Working in a charity shop breaks my week up. I enjoy helping for a good cause and making new friends!” 👏
